New Public Beta 6.43 Now Available

A new Beta software for the Edge 1030 has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found here.
  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.
Changes made from version 6.30 to 6.43:
  • New Beta Feature: Galileo satellites. There is now support to use the Galileo network of satellites to assist in getting GPS fixes. With the correct GPS firmware, this option can be enabled by selecting GPS+Galileo in the GPS setting. Sync the device with Garmin Express to make sure that the new line of GPS firmware is provided to the device. Without this, the option will not be available.
  • Added support for ANT+ cycling dynamics metrics.
  • Updated smart notification categories. In the phone settings, social and other smart notification categories can be enabled. This will make the Edge show notifications from other applications depending on how they are categorized by Garmin Connect Mobile. Apps like WhatsApp, GroupMe, and Twitter may show up under social and things like e-mail, calendar, and news may show up under other. These categories are off by default and must be enabled to be seen.
  • Fixed an issue causing cadence and power data dropouts.
  • Fixed the activity profile routing mode getting reset to Road Cycling mode.
  • Fixed issues with device transfers.
  • Added prompt to indicate when a course has more course points than are supported by the device.
  • Improved Shimano STEPS response time.
  • Fixed lens mode VIRB setting.
  • Fixed issue with transmitting front and rear gear information to the Varia Vision.
  • Fixed sharp bend notifications on the Varia Vision.
  • Fixed issue with elevation back correction that could allow large dips in elevation.
  • Added the current software version to the power on page.
  • Completing a segment will now turn on the backlight.
  • Added a minimum scale to the altimeter page so that small elevation ranges are reflected properly.
  • Improved activity auto-start when the device is stationary.
  • Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
  • Minor CIQ improvements.
Installation Instructions
  • Connect your Edge 1030 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  • Download and unzip Edge1030_643Beta.zip and place the GUPDATE.gcd file in the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  • Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  • If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE-630.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
    NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.

    I'm interested if there are any links to read up on the ANT+ cycling dynamics metrics ? I may install and check it out but was curious what this does? IE if this is something like allowing the Cycling Dynamics screen for the Garmin PowerMeters to function with other brands, and if so they would need to update their firmware? Thanks

    Why is it not possible to organize the routes in folders??? If I put my favorites into the device it will be a long list. It could be very easy to organize them into folders. To be sure you know what i mean: I want that the device also implement subfolders on the folder Garmin/Courses. I have a SD Card with a lot of Memory but it will be very confusing without an organization.

    Why is it not possible to group the history by date? (like in edge 705)
    I want to see on the device the activities for one week.
    And I want to customize them.
    I want to see the distance and the total ascent at one time for a time slot defined by myself.
    If I want to see the accumulated data of a multi day tour, I need a calculator or a smartphone with a connection.
    Is this your target by such a device?

    Its a shame that I can turn on a backlight but it is not possible to view the history by date!

    I think that they did not implement filters for route in device but it can easy implement with Iq apps like "Strava Routes"
    Also a search routes by title of route the will be good


    PS: Filter does exist for routes, but only , All, Garmin Strava , but it could be nice to have aditional filters/folders by date, by name etc
    Also search exists :)

    For history , I think yes , they can put additional filters

    For most the Edge is not where we manage our activities and routes. That is better done on the Garmin Connect website. There you can use the calendar and many other tools to make sense of your data. There is also the option of linking your Garmin Connect and Strava accounts for even more options. Having management capabilities on the Edge can only provide a clunky interface while online tools are far more capable.

    Personally I use Strava for analysis and history consumption. I use Connect for my route planning. I add to Favorites the routes I plan to use and remove those I have no plan to use in the near future to maintain a short list of active routes. I send the routes I need to the edge with Connect Mobile and delete them from the Edge regularly.

    Two things I noticed after the installation of this Beta:
    1. The GPS accuracy datafield still doesn't work. It is constantly showing 3 meters, no matter what the real GPS accuracy is.
    2. The software version is not shown on my unit during startup. I have configured the startup.txt file to show my name, address and phone number during power on.
    Maybe the startup.txt hides the software version?

    You did not understand the situation!

    Every one have a lot of routes on the device. Some for walking. Some for the road. Some for gravel.
    When selecting one of them for a course, you have to know which is for what!
    This is an essential on such a device! Should I before look on an onther system to know which one i should select?

    I also have address and phone added in txt file, but it displays software version at startup, but the screen with FW Ver does't stay for a long time, just briefly
    • Improved activity auto-start when the device is stationary.
    - I have activated this functionality (activity auto-start) and the activity does start , I was still on the bike , keep pedaling , when I have pressed stop and save activity , instead of displaying the stats after the ride, another activity was started

    Essential? Not for me. Maybe you can give your courses a smart name. I like the halo issue to be solved and a confirmation that it is solved.

    It s an hardware issue , how do you want to be solved? by software?
    Send your device in warranty...
