Garmin 1030 Battery Indication Issue

I am running FW 6.30.

Issue: After charging the 1030 to 100% battery, the indicator does not change from 100% unless I power the unit off completely and turn it back on. If I just 'sleep' the unit, the battery indicator stays at 100% regardless of the actual remaining charge. This has been a consistent problem throughout all the FW updates. After holding down the power button and then pressing the power off touch button on screen, then restarting the unit, the proper charge percentage will display.

Any solutions or suggestions?

  • It was a bug introduced somewhere around firmware 4.x, I first noticed ii in Beta 4.11. The only solution I know of is what you've suggested.

I'd really like it if Garmin could fix this, the elevation zoom bug, the disastrous routing in the 2018 maps, the silly sharp turn warnings that alert you even if you're at walking speed, the over sensitive collision alerts, unreliable bluetooth etc etc
  • Same here: An unreliable battery charge info is very annoying. I turned off the sharp bend warning after my first decent in the Alps... What a nonsense function! And disabled the collision alert after giving my girlfrend AND mom a great shock with an accident alert message via SMS...

How about beginning to do your job, Garmin???

Seeing exact same issue - battery percentage gets stuck frequently until you reboot

So.... Garmin - Obviously this is an issue. Lets get it fixed please!
  • And another. I check battery % every ride and its only started doing this for me since upgrade to 6.3.
  • I have a question: Why wouldn't you power the Edge off after a ride? I don't usually ride more than once a day. I guess if I were still commuting, I might try using Sleep Mode while at work But Sleep Mode cannot be as battery friendly as "Off". And this Edge boots up faster than any I've ever owned - 705, 800, and 1000 models previously.

Couple reasons that isn't a viable solution:

First - What good is sleep mode if you can't get an accurate battery reading using it?

Second - The 1030 isn't giving an accurate reading unless you turn off the device and restart it. So how would you know the battery level during an activity without restarting the device mid-activity?
  • The design favours sleep mode, pressing the power button goes into sleep rather than powers off, you have to consciously do a long press and choose power off which while hardly difficult isn’t the natural option. The device also sleeps if you leave it powered on without an activity.

the issue is therefore a bug that appears in the default mode of operation.

I think though if you do always power off then you’ll never see this bug on a ride, as it happens after resume from sleep.
