1030 hangs up on shutdown

My 1030 started hanging up, or freezing, on shutdown. The only way to fix it is to hold in on the power button and reset it, hoping that it won't hang up again. Contacted support and they sent me a refurbished 1030 last week, and now it is doing the same thing. Has anyone else run into this problem before? It doesn't do it on every shut down, but more often than not. The only thing I can think of is the Garmin Connect app may be running on my phone at the time of shutdown---need to verify that.
  • I have noticed it since 6.00. Mine hangs with the power icon on the screen and if you let it sit for 3-5 minutes it eventually reboots. Then I have to power it off again and the 2nd time it shuts down properly. I never thought about it only doing it when GCM is connected to it. You might be on to something there.

Nope on Garmin Connect being the problem. Disconnected the app this morning after the ride and then turned off the 1030. Still hangs. Hello Garmin, others are having this problem too!
  • In 6.00 there is an fix for that "Fixed issue causing freezes when powering off." ,

I would install 6.30 as anyhow there is no difference between 6.00 , then perform an factory default

  • After upgrading to 6.00 I've also had this happen and had todo the hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset to get the Garmin working again.
  • I have installed 6.3, still same problem. I have done factory resets as well, still same problem. I would open a support ticket on this but I have about 10 other tickets opened on more important problems and I have a replacement in waiting. And I only brought it up to let TVnewscyclist know he wasn't alone.

And if factory reset is always the answer, why doesn't garmin build it into their update process?
  • Same problem here, also since the 6.00 firmware. I had this problem before with my Edge 820. I was happy that the 1030 didn't have this problem but now it does have the same problem.
I don't want a factory reset. After that I have to create 4 bike profles, configure the screens, connect sensors for every bike, my HRM, light and the radar.

I called support and let them know it was happening to my replacement 1030 as well. They said I'm the only one to report this. I know it's a hassle, but please open up a ticket on this too...that way they might realize it's a problem with not just me. Thanks! By the way, I installed 6.3 and it still hangs on shutdown.

I have the same problem - the 1030 crashes almost every time when I try to switch it off and make me to force reboot of device which is very annoying because afterword the device loses its time settings. I am using the unit mostly indoor now because of the cold weather but there is not way to set the correct time if there is no GPS signal. Then I have to go outside and wait for the satellite signal in the snow.
But I found something - it looks like the problem is the connection with the phone - the last few times the phone was disconnected and it was OK.
  • My 1030 seems to do something similar. Yesterday I turned it off and the screen appeared to shut down normally. I had about 50% when I shut it down. Today I turn it on and I've got 1%. It seems that I have to always plug it in to beside its not dead in the morning.
