Will Apple Watch 4 Connect to 1030 via Bluetooth

Trying to leave the iPhone at home and just use the new Apple Watch. I know it has Bluetooth, but I'm wondering if the Garmin Edge 1030 will connect with Apple Watch directly? I don't believe that Garmin has created an Apple Watch app, which is a real bummer. With my iPhone now I have to use the Connect app to make the connection, so this may not work. Any experiences? Possible? Impossible?
  • Without a watch app, the 1030 won't connect.

Without a network connection, there's really no need for a connection to the watch.

The 1030 operations quite well without a bluetooth connection.

The Apple Watch has cellular connectivity. Essentially the OP (and I) want to use the Apple Watch instead of the iPhone. Leaving the chunky phone at home and simply using the watch would be great. The cellular connection from the watch would allow the edge to get notifications and live Strava etc etc. I would really like to see this happen in the future.

Have an Apple Watch 5 Cellular and a Garmin Edge 830. I dream of the possibility to leave my phone at home and allow Garmin Connect to connect through the Watch. I don’t need all the fancy functions from the phone app, just being able to use the 830 with internet connectivity.

I mean there are a few 3rd party apps that can right, so it should be technically possible?

  • I don't think that Apple watch will connect directly to Garmin Edge 1030. You will need e.g https://npe-inc.com/heartbeatz/

Thank you for the link but my takeaway was that folks wanted to use the apple watch for things like livetrack and uploading their activities, which have to be done via Garmin Connect Mobile. This kind of functionality is not possible.

Pairing your apple watch as a heart rate monitor may be possible if Apple allows you to use this as an ANT+ or BT sensor.

I would like to see this added also. Why can’t my Garmin 1030 use my Apple Watch’s LTE connection to receive live data? Garmin should really introduce a fix for this. I would love to leave my phone at home and just take my watch.
