1030 - How to declutter maps

Former Member

Edge 1030 Map display question (I have searched to no avail).
When looking at a map whilst riding I find it pretty hard to follow.
1. how do I get rid of the icons for every restaurant, bus stop, church etc etc
2. Can I configure colours etc so that the route to take and the route already ridden are more distinctive
3. What other display type settings can I change on the map screen
I am trying to make it a simple street map with a route to follow and an icon to show where I am.
Would be great to keep POI in search and not delete them from the data files.
Thanks
  • In the activity settings there is a navigation option. Under that option you can set the chart detail. You don't have to delete anything.

False. There is no option for chart detail.
  • I think the map detail settings are under the Map visibility settings.

    1. Go to Activity Profiles-navigation- map- map visibility- map visibility mode, change to custom.
Now back arrow, select zoom levels – map points change this to something like 50m, then the poi icons on the installed map will only show if you zoom in to 50m or less. There are other settings to play around with here, for example turning shaded relief off may help with your map.

    2. If you are navigating a route the colour will always be the same. The track you have already done also cannot be changed. The only thing you can change is the course colour if you have set this to always display. Go to Navigation- courses- saved courses- select the course you want to change-settings . Here you have some options

    3. Other options to change how the map displays cannot be done directly from the garmin. You need outside software. There is a program called TYPchanger which can alter the way the map looks but this really isn’t for somebody who hasn’t played around with maps before.

Excellent - great details. I have switched off Map Points (the POI) and Shaded Relief.

    Also succinct advice.
Question: What are "Course Points"? The manual just says "Select Course Points to include course points on the map. " Are they the waypoints or are they POI?

Will follow your advice and leave that to map geeks.

Will test on a 130km challenge on the weekend.
