Intermittent GPS reception after 6.00-update

Updated from 5.00 to 6.00 yesterday and now my 1030 is only getting GPS-position intermittently. Yesterday, it reported that my 10 km ride home was 591 meters long. Today, the same ride got 20 meters logged. Anyone else experiencing this?
  • Slight update: The afternoon rid got logged for 2.99 km (out of 10). The 1030 seems to think there is GPS reception, as it's not warning for "satellite lost", but that I am not moving. When I toggle between GPS and GPS+GLONASS, or when I turn GPS off, I get the "satellite lost" message.
  • What is just noticed, that is even stranger, is that the device records my gps position as I can follow the whole route on a map afterwards, so it's correct to display GPS reception as full. The device just thinks I'm moving at 0 km/h...

Have you tried resetting the 1030 to see if it fixes the problem? To avoid losing your settings and customisations on doing the reset, you can follow the procedure at https://support.garmin.com/en-AU/?fa...aC3xrXxmQj7U9A.

same problem today with fw 6.0.

Yes, did the full reset without any improvement. I did however discover something today that I think is the core of the problem:

I have a GSC-10 Speed/Cadence sensor, which I have only used for cadence. The magnet for the speed sensor is not mounted on the wheel. It's been working fine with my Edge 810 and with the 1030 that I am now using, but after the update, it seems as if the Edge 1030 is relying only the speed sensor in the GSC-10 (which I'm not using) so reported speed is 0 km/h. When I disconnected the sensor, everything worked fine (except for the cadence of course). Is there a setting for having GPS speed prioritized higher than GSC-10 speed?
  • Sounds like you might be getting occasional speed readings, enough to confuse the 1030 into using the speed sensor over GPS, could your cadence magnet be tripping the speed sensor? Can you try moving the magnet a bit further away from the speed sensor?
  • I had the same exact problem. Soon as I updated to 6.0 it stopped recording the activity. The next day, I disconnected the speed sensor, and it worked. Not sure if the magnet is well positioned, but it didn't behave like this with previous version.

I tried moving the speed sensor pickup further away but the result was the same. As "romaosl" writes, it worked perfectly before the upgrade. Can't be a coincidence.
  • Fair enough, would be a bit of a coincidence and does sound like a bug. Maybe a consequence of the "improved sensor searching flow" in 6.00?
