experience with Fw v6.00

Hi there, I don't have this yet, are there any positive/negative feedbacks from those who have tried it already?
Is it worth it?

Hmm so that's about 6 people (already) reporting that the unit randomly restarts itself - shortly after Garmin release firmware that 'fixes' the shutdown fault (which a few people have also stated still doesn't work). It seems like this new variant needs an urgent fix - setting out for a long ride and finding the unit on 0% must be beyond frustrating (particularly given it takes forever to charge)..
  • Like another user reported some of my rides don't upload over the air. So I tried GC and get this error....this now looks like a backward upgrade. I've more problems than on V5! Extraordinary....sigh.

Some improvements with livetrack and BT connection.
still no sms messages being shown.
As others have reported takes two attempts to shutdown aa first attempt fails and it reboots after 5 minutes.

  • v6.00 seems to be working ok for me, except I noticed that the Performance Condition notification that I used to get around 6 minutes into the ride doesn’t apear anymore. It’s still there as a chart in Garmin connect post ride, so I suppose I could add it as a field if I wanted it, just that I don’t really have a spare spot for it unles I add another data screen.

New problem in V6.0 compared to v5.0: my Trek connected headlight light disconnects randomly.
  • Did a ride with fw 6.00: navigation, livetrack, grouptrack, remote, upload after ride, texting using groupride etc. Everything worked. Fingers crossed for next ride, but happy with it.
  • Live track always ok but group track no, everybody can see me and I can see nobody, Ihave re sync a few times without sucess
Kom screen (always uncomprehensible) stay on after the segment is end, Always stop it manualy.
No shutdown when I stop the 1030, always softreset to restart and off
When using Varia, it works randomly (the remote also)

No, not worth it. The random mid-ride shutdowns continue with firmware 6.0.0.

My Edge 1030 has never restarted, it just silently shuts down. I notice it when I look down at a blank screen.

Pressing the power button brings it back to the Save Ride/Discard Ride screen (as if Start/Stop had been pressed) and the Start/Stop button resumes the ride — once the GPS satellite signal has been re-acquired — with the caveat that there are no datapoints between the shutdown and restart. Garmin Connect and Strava show whatever a straight line would be between those two datapoints, so distance, average speed, and other stats may be off quite a bit depending on factors such as your actual track, how long the Garmin was offline, and whether you stopped to correct the problem (auto pause obviously can't kick in).

This really does warrant an urgent fix, IMO. Looking through the error logs, many of the shutdowns seem to be related to array out-of-bounds errors within system functions, though that’s far from the only cause. There has been a sticky thread here on the Edge 1030 forum about the random shutdowns (Edit: link) since before firmware 4.0.0 which was supposed to address this problem, but it’s still an issue as of 6.0.0 released last week.

TLDR: I wouldn't advise anyone to spend $600 (or equivalent € or £) on an Edge 1030 in its current state. Very promising features, very frustrating execution.

This seems to have fixed itself this morning. First time in 5 rides since upgrading to v6.00. So it's worked one time in a row!!! Given that, no issues from my side now with v6.00. Well, lets see what tomorrow brings.

  • So far v6.00 seems to work for me. Is it my imagination that the beeps for navigation are a little louder? They are still too high in pitch and not loud enough. I can hear a rider with an Garmin 8x0 riding close to me when I can barely hear my 1030.
