experience with Fw v6.00

Hi there, I don't have this yet, are there any positive/negative feedbacks from those who have tried it already?
Is it worth it?
  • Edge still does not connect to phone automatically. I always need to activate the connect app on the phone first.
    Kind of uncomfortable.

As far as I know this has always been the way it works. You must have the Connect app opened in the background on the phone for things to work. I don't think this is a bug but the way the designed things.
  • That is incorrect (and makes no sense). Opening GCM has never been required in the years I've used Edge devices. Upon power up the Edge automatically connects to the phone.
  • Rob-Tech,

Try the following and see if it helps. In IOS 11.4.1 ( or the equivalent in Android) go to Settings, Privacy, Location Services and set the Connect app to ALWAYS. For some reason Garmin uses location service to setup the Bluetooth connection. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the tip, I'll verify on the next ride.

if you are using Android phones, and if some of them have so-called power saving mode, GCM may be killed periodically... that's why GCM app has to be opened once to allow it to connect to Edge...

No, that is not the case with my Samsung S6 edge+, Garmin Connect is running in the background and it still won't connect. The only way to connect is to start the app or power cycle bluetooth on the phone. Something broke on the edge 1030 after firmware 4.0.
  • And yet my last two rides Live Track and Group Track worked flawlessly, and the last ride was a 125 miler in and out of phone service :) It can be frustrating at times.

Indeed Bart - but on your next ride, none of the features will work ;-)

This is was really makes this odd? Sometimes it works - other times it doesn't :-(

    And it's so annoying...!
  • No shutdown, stay on the Off logo (==> soft reset)

Same experience with Shutdown. Hangs on the power off logo and then soft resets after a couple of minutes 100% of the time.
At least its better than 5.x beta which just stayed at the logo and you had to hard reset it with the button.
  • So the point "Fixed a potential freeze when powering off." was, at least for me, not resolved.
After every workout, the 1030 can not be turned off and I have to press the power button for 10 seconds.

Just tried 6.0 yesterday. During the ride it worked fine, but after the ride it turned itself back on right a couple of minutes after I had powered it off. Hopefully Garmin can fix this newly introduced bug very quickly and not wait a month or so for a larger update. Shawn, is it possible for you to escalate this?

This may have happened to me. End of ride Saturday 52% battery, lunchtime today 0, seems the only explanation. Will charge it and check periodically.
