Although I've not tried it on the 1030 as I don't need the storage, stability is a potential con. The Edge 820 would occasionally shut down mid ride when using an SD card due to (presumably) vibration messing with the connections. Without an SD card they were stable, but couldn't hold maps. It's likely this could happen with the 1030 as well but in this case there is sufficient room for mapping out of the box so why bother?
