How to deal with lack of map data in US on the 1030

I was in Maine last week and was unable to find any routes with my 1030 as it did not have any street details beyond Rte 1 or larger roads. That blows, but at least Strava was able to piece together my routes after I was done.

So my question is: what US maps does the 1030 come with? I assumed it was a full US map, but that cannot be the case given my experience last week. And I have purchased EU maps in the past from Garmin but have forgotten what and where I got them. I actually never got on the bike this spring when I did travel so I can't even be sure my downloaded maps worked with the ancillary micro SD card I put in and to which I assume to have saved said purchased EU maps.

Anyways, I'm sure there is a simple discussion or "how to" thread somewhere that I have yet to find... I appreciate any help.

The maps that come with the 1030 are OSM maps.

Sounds like the detailed map is disabled on your unit. Try reenabling it.

The maps on the unit are based on Openstreetmap (OSM).

Go into map settings and post a list of maps that you do have onboard.

The US version of the 1030 includes detailed maps out of the box, with no exgtra setup required. Did you get a non-US version? If so, you would need to install the OSM maps.

Thank you for the replies. I had gone to OSM and selected a bunch of patches to download, but then figured I'd better check what my unit has... I think the advice from dpawlyk is where I need to start. This is a US unit purchased directly from Garmin in Dec '17. I'll post back with results or follow-up issues.

I also bought mine in Dec. '17 and the only thing I have ever done is update maps via the Garmin Express application on my Mac. I have ridden in urban and rural Missouri and Illinois (paved and gravel roads), as well as the Breckenridge/Vail/Copper areas of CO. All my ride maps have had full details.
