Warranty running out soon

So anyone else worried about there year's warranty running out and for 3/4 of it having a cycle computer that they could not use or test all the features as they never worked and some still don't.

Will be the last time ever I will buy a garmin product that is just released as 9 months of the year's ownership has been plagued with bugs, faults and features that just don't work.

Think garmin would extend the early adopters warranty by another six months to a year to cover the faults they had on the unit.

Anyone agree?
  • Yup agree. Also in return for beta testing a defective product for Garmin.
  • If you get your unit replaced, warranty period re-starts from the moment you get the replaced unit. Say you get a replacement unit now. Warranty re-starts from Aug/2018.

At least this is how it is where I live (Northern EU).

I have the HALO issue on mine. But I'm waiting to get mine replaced until 2 months before one year has passed ;-)
  • I just replaced mine after 10 months.
They did not even ask questions, they did not want pictures, nothing, because they know that this is a piece of scrap.
In the spring I will exchange for another one again.
I expect another halo or other breakage.
  • In the UK, under the Consumer Rights act you have up to 6 years to make a claim against the retailer (not the manufacturer) if the goods were faulty when supplied (I guess this would apply to things like the screen halo). For digital devices, they can be considered faulty if the software doesn't work properly - Garmin take note :-)

Currently Garmin only warranty a repair for 90 days, unless the original warranty was longer than that, but I'm not sure that is compliant with the law and how it works with the retailer, all feels a bit messy.

  • I don't have an Edge however I have found over the years that Garmin has gone over and above their warrantee commitment when there are known problems with one of their products. The latest example of this happened to me last week. The power button on my refurb FR910XT that I had bought 23 months ago stopped working. Fortunately, it happened while the watch was on so I could keep it in the charger and continue to use it.

I called Garmin support and they FedExed me a replacement refurb without me even asking. Why? Because this was a known issue with that watch. There are all sorts of threads on this subject going back to 2014.
  • Would you really get a full warranty on a replacement? Can't see that in the terms and conditions, and feels overly generous (from a Garmin point of view), especially as I believe they give refurbs rather than a new unit. Be great if they did but sounds unlikely somehow.

I had a quick scan through the Consumer Rights act and couldn't see anything about 6 years either so not sure about that Which article I linked.

The article you mentioned only says that if the product fails within 2 years, then you have another 4 years to make a claim at a court. This does not mean, however, that there's a 6 year guarantee. If the product fails after 2 years, then you have no right to make a claim. And I think this works in UK only. Not sure about the rest of Europe.
  • Also note that Madison who are one of the major distributors offered an extended warranty on the Edge 1030 in the UK, if you still have your 1030 box check there is a sticker on the front (there is on mine) and if so you get 2 years warranty via the retailer (Sigma Sport in my case). This is great, I'm much happier that I'm covered for 2 years as I was worried the screen halo would reappear just as I was out of warranty.
