Cannot access last ride data: won't sync via Connect and won't connect via USB

Hello,
I am always impressed with the technical acumen of so many people on this forum, so I am here to ask for some help with my travails, and some mercy in my ignorance.

I have not had this issue previously, though I have had slow or delayed uploads via Connect. I suspected either conflicting syncs with my Fenix 3, or more recently with my CycIQ6... can't wait for Di2 problems and my 1030! Now the issue is more severe it seems. I finished a ride and can find the ride in the "History" and then "Rides" menus, but when selecting the ride, no data is brought up, unlike all of the other rides. I then started the Outdoor ride for 10 seconds, stopped it, saved it, and it synced flawlessly and was accessible in the menus, but the actual ride remains unaccessible. I read in older threads that a person had issues with an 800 series Garmin and was able to manually enter the ride into Connect (then I hope Strava too), but only after the file was downloaded off the device onto the PC and then "scrubbed" by someone with a 3rd-party program.

This last part is way over my IT pay-grade (I'm good at turning off and turning on again, and not much else these days). I suspect that until I can get the 1030 to sync via the USB to the computer, that I'm not going to have any progress at all, but I would be grateful for some ideas on how to progress from here.

Regards
• downgrade from an edge 810

My Garmin Edge 810 Always paired with my phone and all the sensors. and had an upload option on the ride if the save did not generate a successful upload. Also plugging it to my computer would upload any saved ride.

Now my Edge 1030 worked on Monday, had a "firmware update" (that is all I know, it fleetingly appeared at the top of the screen) midweek. and on Thursday failed to find the sensors and did not connect to the phone. It is set up with my wifi and is supposed to upload a ride saved in the wifi. But wifi is odd, the sensors and phone have rows in a status display but Wifi is in the status line. it periodically reports the wifi and then drops the display so back at the main screen it blinks like unavailable sensors.

There is an option to upload a new ride, but it only displays at the top of the rides list sometimes, if you manage to click it before it disappears it displays "uploading rides" for a while then disappears, investigation reveals this was probably because no wifi or phone connection. So why does it not keep connections.

I accepted an update to the software after the struggle and it made no difference. Also the intermittent Wifi was while the phone with Garmin Connect open was close to it with rock solid wifi.

the 1030 has also hung three times while coming out of charging. Oh it is a week old today!
• Rod, it sounds like you and I don't have the same issues... I really just want advice on how to access a specific ride so as to upload it to Connect and then to Strava... I think I posted new PRs and feel like they were stolen now!
I'm told we are supposed to clear rides from the log to free-up memory space on the Garmin units... is that true?

What firmware version are you running on your device?
Are you using any developer software packages on your device?
Your device only has so much storage space and is not designed for long term storage of your activities once uploaded. It can't save a 800kb activity file when there is only 750kb of free storage available.
I don't keep any more than the current months activities on my device - all the others are in an archive folder on my computer.

cheers
Mike
• Mike... thanks for the response. I will clear out old rides asap. I have the Fenix 3 as well... I assume I should run some sort of data management there as well? Perhaps that is why I lost 99% of the data off of my Garmin 720 when I tried to sync it into Strava a couple weeks ago... lost data from 2009-2016. I'm only getting up to speed with some of this tech just now (still learning as I go).
I will check my firmware on the 1030, which I think is up to date... that may not have been the issue with the file as I noted above. I have since replaced the batteries to the HRM strap and will replace the Vector 3 batteries tonight.

Cheers
• I found this thread through a search and I'm in exactly same situation. I had a ride yesterday and the ride doesn't sync with Garmin connect nor can I access the ride data from history.. Did you solve this? And how? Thanks

me too!!! What the heck?! It works during the ride and saves nothing!

• Connect your Edge to your PC/Mac:

-check how many activities are stored in Garmin/activities
(makes problems if you reach about 200)

-check if the „lost“ activity is stored there - maybe with a wrong date

• Hi, I had the same problem and I think mcinner1 is right about the space issue.

I did a fairly long ride yesterday (250km) which is a 1.2mb file - facts:

- it saved at the end and appears in ride history on garmin 820 and on computer but has an asterisk next to it and won't load the data

- I had about 200 rides on the device which i've just removed

- when i try to manually import it to Garmin Connect it says 'this file format is not supported' - even thought it's a fit file and it says it accepts these...

Similar issue: the file is clearly on the garmin but how do i get it downloaded to garmin connect?

• I have the same issue. Did anyone found a solution? Is a 100km ride.
