Cannot access last ride data: won't sync via Connect and won't connect via USB

Hello,
I am always impressed with the technical acumen of so many people on this forum, so I am here to ask for some help with my travails, and some mercy in my ignorance.

I have not had this issue previously, though I have had slow or delayed uploads via Connect. I suspected either conflicting syncs with my Fenix 3, or more recently with my CycIQ6... can't wait for Di2 problems and my 1030! Now the issue is more severe it seems. I finished a ride and can find the ride in the "History" and then "Rides" menus, but when selecting the ride, no data is brought up, unlike all of the other rides. I then started the Outdoor ride for 10 seconds, stopped it, saved it, and it synced flawlessly and was accessible in the menus, but the actual ride remains unaccessible. I read in older threads that a person had issues with an 800 series Garmin and was able to manually enter the ride into Connect (then I hope Strava too), but only after the file was downloaded off the device onto the PC and then "scrubbed" by someone with a 3rd-party program.

This last part is way over my IT pay-grade (I'm good at turning off and turning on again, and not much else these days). I suspect that until I can get the 1030 to sync via the USB to the computer, that I'm not going to have any progress at all, but I would be grateful for some ideas on how to progress from here.

Regards
  • Hi, I managed to get the file downloaded from the garmin to my computer in a convoluted way.

You need to plug the garmin into the computer

Then click on the device in finder (mac) / file explorer (windows)

Click through to the route files in the device

Download or drag the route into your files or desktop

Open garmin connect or strava and find the 'upload' ride section

You might need to update the file name to .tcx before the next step

Then drag the file from your computer desktop / files (wherever you saved it) into Garmin connect / strava

This worked for me. Good luck!

  • I had this happen to me but only once or twice. No solution per say but I recovered the ride because the FIT file was there on the Edge. I connected it to the computer, recovered that FIT file, and then uploaded manually to Connect (web) and Strava. Never found out why that particular ride would not upload. And it is working fine now. So see if you can recover it that way if it matters enough to you.
