Strava Live Segments & Navigation - Cases

I'm Strava Premium and have "sync popular segments" enabled. Thing is, I still can't figure out under what circumstances the 1030 starts live segments. To me, it seems:

- riding without navigation: starred segments, plus popular segments (or even more? Anyway, lot's of segments)
- when navigate a Garmin "course" (navigation -> courses -> saved courses): absolutely nothing, no segments show up during navigation (that's surprising to me!)
- when navigate by Strava Routes IQ app: starred segments only

Is that correct?

  • Correct. Strava segments are only reported when following a course if they are embedded in the course. Currently only the Strava Route app does this.
  • Hi aweatherall,

Please note that Strava Routes app seems not working (see frustrated people rating 1*). So right now, two most important selling points in flagship Edge 1030 does not work together - you cannot navigate to strava segments you starred.

Are there any plans to enable Strava Segments while navigating through Garmin Courses? This limitation is most illogical “feature” in E1030 I've seen so far in this unit.

    Best regards, Jarek

Since I've managed to sync Strava Routes, at least I could verify the 3rd case you've mentioned. And obviously, I'm confirming the 2nd (after my very first ride when I was not aware of no segments while navigating along Garmin Routes).

But now I'm wondering about the 1st case, especially this statement "starred segments + popular segments, a lot of segments". Can somebody elaborate?

Another question - on Wahoo Bolt, I could see a list of my segments with a distance to each of them. It was extremely useful (e.g. to asses how far I have to the next and the next after the next...). Is it possible to see the distance on Garmin?

    Thank you,
    Jarek
