1030 And Bluetooth Connection On Android

Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere but I couldn't find mention of it.

I have a 1030 on firmware V5 and a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge running Android v8. I also have the latest version of GCM installed on the phone.

My 1030 simply will not connect to the phone by Bluetooth unless I manually run GCM. I have reinstalled GCM and repaired the devices multiple times but no joy.

Out of curiosity, I fired up my old Garmin 520 and bingo! It connected to the phone instantly, while the 1030 did nothing.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Apart from this 1 thing, the 1030 seems to be behaving itself since the V5 update.
  • I don't think it's a problem at the phone end, because I use the same phone with both an Edge 1000 and Edge 1030, and it's only the 1030 that requires GCM to be manually started before BT connection, Livetrack, activity upload etc will function.

Actually I had the problem on my Explore 820. Last night I rode for the first time using the 1030 and it connected perfectly of it's own accord, sent out the Beacon emails, uploaded the finished activity. The last time all those things worked automatically on my 820 was months (and several software updates) ago.
  • Yeah, my Edge 1000 connects to the phone without needing to start GCM; when I start recording a ride Livetrack auto-starts without needing to start GCM; and when I end a ride it auto-uploads without needing to start GCM. The 1030 won't do a sodding thing with the same phone without manually starting GCM.

Guys, I have a very similar problem. Had Edge 1000 that worked flawlessly with a Sony Xperia Z5, live track always started within 3 seconds and my wife could track my whole ride and receive the strava beacon texts. I purchased a new phone, Sony Xperia XZ2 and live track starts were delayed by a few minutes and sometimes it would drop out and stop all together.

Now I have an Edge 1030 and to get any action at all I have to open GCM for the phone to BT connect. Live track will then start but after a minute or so after I have put my phone away, the phone disconnects and Live Track will no longer track. I have tried Android Developer options changing the AVRCP version and initially this worked, but it has gone back to it's old ways. Have also set power options to not shut down GCM. Did you have any resolution?
  • SOLVED. I have reset all settings to factory default on the Edge 1030. Done both types of factory reset offered in the menu and this has solved the issue. I first made sure to backup various FIT files so that my screen setup, personal records and other items were saved. I copied these back onto the device once I confirmed everything was working.

The connected features are working the best they ever have. The phone connects once I boot the Edge up, Live track works, strava beacon works, I get SMS, Whatsapp and anything else I want. All happens instantly. Not sure what the issue was as I only recently bought the Edge 1030. Maybe it requires a reset from the factory. Good luck.
