Setup for responding to a SMS notification on an iPhone 5c

I am able to received SMS notifications on my Edge 1030... But I cannot answer on the Edge. I am connected with an iPhone 5c with IOS 10.3.3.
My wife is able to receive messages and send automatic responses directly on her Edge 1030. She is connected with a MotoG with 5.1 Android.
We're both on firmware 5.0 with intermittent working remote when our phones are connected.
Is there someone with the same setup (iphone 5c) being able to received/send messages from his Edge? What should I check on the iphone setup. Both Edges have the same setup.

Responding to a message is only supported on Android.

There's nothing that can be done ... Apple doesn't allow 3rd party apps access to the iMessage / SMS functionality in iOS.

If Apple ever opens up the iMessage functionality, I'm sure Garmin will leverage it.
