WhatsApp Messages after 5.0 Update?

I don’t know what you guys are doing when using your edge 1030 but I don’t want to be bothered by any notifications when I am using my 1030 (cycling). I would like to see that garmin sort the current issues out first before adding new (silly) functionality.

What issues? I've ridden 12,000km on mine since December and it hasn't missed a beat. Using Varia radar, and front light. 4 different power meters, multiple connect IQ apps. What are you doing with yours? Have you read the instructions?

Well. The 1030 supported since the very beginning displaying SMS messages. Now, the patch notes claim that it can do Hangout (which is mainly a video conferencing solution) and Messenger.
I was asking if it can do WhatsApp (another messanger). Conceptually from a API / implementation point of view, I see little difference between Messanger, SMS, Hangout, and WhatsApp; especially as other Garmin products support it to - so this is neither a silly question nor a silly feature.
What crazy thing am I doing that I am interested in such a thing? Well, nobody contacts me via SMS since 2006, while WhatsApp is quite popular... What I would like to to is to use all that fancy stuff which IS already implemented for SMS / Hangout to use it for Whatapp, too. Stuff like Friend A: "Meet for beer at 21:00" - quick response using the 1030 interface "yes". Okey, one could argue that I could also stop, take out my phone, and then respond using the phone, but all that functionality seems to be (maybe) already in the 1030 - I simply cannot get it to work.

So: Does the 1030 support now with FW 5.0 WhatsApp? And if yes, how does one switch it on?

I guess since they mentioned hangouts and messenger which are both capable of replacing the standard sms app on an android phone, they only mean that the 1030 is now able to show sms messages which were received by another sms client. that's it. no other messaging solution ... but I may be wrong....

Yes you're wrong. I receive hangout messages (not sms messages) with my 1030. I can also answer them and the answer is sent via hangout network and not as sms.

As Garmin is promoting the 1030 with its smart notification function and on devices like the old fenix 3 whatsapp is working from the very beginning its absolutly frustrating why they are not able to get it work on the 1030. Nobody is using text messages anymore!

Buildung up a smart notification feature on a new device based on old school text messages is ridiculous. GET WHATSAPP WORKING PLS !!!!

Agreed. I was surprised the other day when i received a Facebook messenger notification while riding. Still no whatsapp. My wife contacts me on whatsapp no matter how many times i tell her that if she needs me when cycling, to send me an SMS.

Please add whatsapp support. I'm smart enough to know how to mute groups so they dont bother me while cycling.
