I installed the old micro SD card that worked fine with my Edge 1000, but Edge 1030 does not load the map. Is it so because the map is too old or because my device might be faulty?
I noticed the same issue last week with my new 1030.
I had a lot of OSM maps (fi for the Alps etc) on my SD card, but they simply don't appear when inserting the SD in my 1030.
So now I downloaded OSM, osm freizeitkarte etc as windows installer cards (.exe instead of simply the card files).
Then you need to transfer them via basecamp to your device...
it's a bit of a workaround which was easier in the past (simply copying the image files to your edge) but for now it works... don't know if there is another solution which is more like the old way of copying maps to the edge...
This is one of the older Garmin maps. Probably something like 10 y.o. When I upgraded firmware to 5.0 the map was loaded after a reboot. But then on subsequent reboots it still does not loan the map. Must be some software bug.
same here - since fw 5.00 my openfietmaps from https://extract.bbbike.org doesn't load properly. I only see parts of the extracted map. The same map was fine before.
Hey guys, yesterday I was working on this topic once more with my new edge 1030...
found out a few things, thanks to another post on the forum somewhere I accidentally found.
So, as far as I can see, something happened the past years in how garmin reads / stores data on their devide / your SD card...
If you format your sd card and then reinsert a new folder structure is being created, amongst them a SQL folder, where this wasn't there in the past on my edge 800... so I guess they now work more with a SQL database system...
So, yesterday i did all this, copied all my cards again from basecamp and others directly by copying the gmapsupp.img files to the sd card drive recognised when you insert the gps in your usb port.
Suddenly one of my cards was available within the bike profile -> settings -> navigation -> maps (or something like that)... but the others weren't there... and a little bit later, the one that was there, disappeared again...
Suddenly, also my laptop started throwing quite some errors that something wasn't right with my SD card... so I gave up and ordered a new SD card right away (took a sandisk micro sd extreme 32gb just to be on the safe side :-)
Just placed the new card in the gps and booted the device. Connected it to my pc, and the folder structure was there. Copied the first freizeitkarte .img file directly to the sd card \Garmin folder, checked the bike profile, and the card was there right away!!
Copied various other cards (freizetkarte, openfietsmap cards,...) and guess what... works like a charm, all cards available just as on your old SD card...
So I can only suggest for those who are struggling with the same issue... get yourself a nice shiny new SD card and let your new garmin format it with the correct (new) folder structure, and start copying .img files to it :-)
