Restore 1000 to 1030?

Anyone tried to restore backups from a 1000 to a 1030? I'd like to not have to go thru the screen setup, at least!!
  • Pretty sure that's not possible.

It would be a nice feature though.
  • Actually, I'm thinking this WILL work. I copied the Settings folder and maybe others of the six mentioned here, https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=eWswdSH4aC3xrXxmQj7U9A&searchType=noProduct., from an Edge 1000 to an Edge 820 and it worked!! I'll backup the 6 folders on the brand new 1030 first and try it, I can't imagine it'll brick the 1030!!! Waiting for the first map update to complete now, then I'll give it a go.
  • I would be very careful with that. It may appear to work, but could cause issue that will be hard to diagnose. The screen layout information is different as are some of the options in the settings file. I would not recommend importing the settings and the sports profiles.
  • It didn't work for me when i moved from a 1000 to a 1030.
Locations, courses and the like worked ok, but not the settings or the sports fit files. I have to recreate the data pages and the sensor info separately.

Yup, my experience exactly. Tried Sports file and it seemed to just resort to some system default profile! Ah, well, recreated data pages and actually made some improvements, so perhaps it's best!!!

    I concur with that.

As a software developer, I can tell you that data migration from one product to another (or even one version of a product to another) needs careful consideration.
