Cannot Install Update 5.0

Ok, for days now I try to install update 5.0, and it fails all the time, no matter what I do. So, basically what happens is that it "validating update" up to 100%, and then simply states "unable to apply update" with no further explanation.

This is a problem I had since I got the device in winter, but up to now I could at least install the beta firmwares (currently 4.36) by performing a factory reset (reset default settings / clear data and settings in RESET menu), and then installing the firmware on the "fresh" device. However, with 5.0 even those extreme measures do not help anymore, and the silly update simply will not install at all.
This makes we very unhappy and annoyed.

Does anybody have clever idea what to do?
  • Its possible that the firmware update file on your device is corrupt somehow. Did you update over wifi or Garmin Express?

You could try connecting your garmin to a computer & see if there's a gupdate.gcd file in the /Garmin folder & delete it.
Then try updating via Garmin Express
  • Thanks!

Well, I tried to delete the gupdate.gcd file several times already, to no avail. It got there via Garmin Express.
If I try to update from the device itselft via WLAN, it simply claims that there is no update available after checking for it briefly (which is also weird....why does the Edge itself not find updates? WLAN in general is working, as this is how I transfer activities).
  • Woooh. Ok. I got it to work now but simply installing Garmin Express to a different computer, and running the update process there!

Thats....weird. But whatever, this did it.
