Edge 1030 :: History Problem

Since beta 4.24, now on 4.36, when trying to view a ride, selecting History > Rides, edge 1030 freezes. I have to reset the device holding power button for 10 seconds.
Any idea? Any solution?
  • It sounds like there could be an issue with one of the files in the Garmin\Activities folder.

Try moving the contents of this folder to your PC. Then put some of the older files back on the Edge and see if it works. If it does, keep adding files back until you find a file(s) that causes the issue.
  • I have moved the contents to my pc. Without any data on the internal storage activities folder, I can see the activities stored on the sd card (from my old edge 1000). Now, when I copy one or more fit activities files to the activity folder, I can't see any "new" data when going to History > Rides (except the old ones from the sd card), and when reconnecting the edge to my computer the file or files copied had dissapeared. Unbelieveble!!
  • Is the 1030 configured to use the SD card for activity storage?

This screwy behavior is not new, at least in my experience, and has always been a problem both with the 1000 and 1030. On three separate occasions the latest 90 days of my activities were deleted from the card, with older activities remaining. Also, when I physically copied the deleted activities back to the card, they were visible in the folder but never appeared in History => Rides -- same as your experience. This seems to occur whenever changing or upgrading devices, with saved settings. Until now, I do not recall anyone else reporting this -- at least I'm not alone!

It’s not. In fact, I'm using the internal memory for activity storage. The sd card has my edge 1000 activities and some local maps. Yesterday, a new activity was saved into internal storage. Now, I can see this new one from the internal storage and all the old ones from the sd card. So it seems I can't restore any of the activities recorded using the 1030...
  • Hi, How are you restoring your history? Do you put it in the Activities folder or the NewFiles folder?
I restore my history by putting them in the NewFiles folder. They take a while to process if you have many files

Also how many activity files do you have in total between the device & memory card?
There is a 200 Activity total limit on the device/card. Following a firmware update or file restoration, on startup I found that Activities are processed in reverse order ie oldest first. If you have more than 200 activities it deletes from 200 onward ie your newest files.
The weird thing is this only happens following a firmware update or restoration. I found I could still record activities above the 200 limit and they would be visible on the device

I have just upgraded to version 5.00 a few minutes ago. I tried both methods putting it directly to Activities folder and also in NewFiles folder. But all data "dissapear". Now, I've tried both methods but into the sd card. Exactly the same result. But, the key is what you explain about the 200 activities limit. These are exactly the number of activities in the sd card activities folder. So, I deleted all the old activities on the sd card. Then tried to restore the newest activities (those recorded with the 1030) in the internal memory with no success. But using the external sd card I've restored the history. So, it seems all is related to the 200 activities limit. I recognised, I had no idea about the number of activities limit. Thanks so much for the info.
  • No problem. Glad you got it sorted.
It confused the hell out of me until another user helped me out. Just sharing the knowledge
  • Hi,
is it possible to group the history on the device (not on Garmin connect!!!)?
I want to see on the device the activities for one week.
And is it possible to customize them? I want to see the distance and the altitude at one time for one week.
Is it maybe possible to do it with connectiq? this could also be a solution for me!

    Thank you for help
  • Hi
I have been reading the above thread. I have had this issue for months on the Edge 1030. I have had endless problems with the 1030 locking up-today it took me 40 mins pre ride to get it to work. In the end, as holding the power button down would not fix the problem, I removed and put back the SD card forcing the 1030 to reload all maps and this at least enabled me to ride with the 1030. At the end of the ride however it did not upload. I had to access the SD to pull it out as a fit file. I have been unable to see History for a very long time...1030 freezes up. I just deleted the oldest files from my SD card and now I can see History. I have also not been able to upload Strava routes and therefore don't see any segments when riding. Am hoping the deleting old history from the SD card will also solve this...we'll see. It appears I can now see Strava routes...I do not understand why a SD limit on number of rides is forcing the 1030 to not function. The capacity of the SD should be the over riding controller. Can anyone explain this?
