New Public Beta 4.36 Now Available

A new Beta software for the Edge 1030 has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found here.
  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.
[h=4]Changes made from version 4.24 to 4.36:[/h]
  • Added Physio TrueUp support. Physio TrueUp syncs activities done on other Garmin devices, allowing your device to more accurately reflect your training status and fitness. Activities from other devices will appear in the History menu. Your Training Status, Training Load, and VO2 Max will be updated using activities from your other devices, and your Recovery Time will be also updated using data from other devices supporting Physio TrueUp. Enable Physio TrueUp in Device Settings on Garmin Connect or Garmin Connect Mobile.
  • Improved BLE stability. This should address issues with LiveTrack not working properly and with BLE sensors freezing.
  • Fixed issue with 2018.10 maps where turn prompts may be missed during navigation.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause software updates to clear the list of paired sensors.
[h=2]Installation Instructions[/h]
  • Connect your Edge 1030 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  • Download and unzip Edge1030_436Beta.zip and place the GUPDATE.gcd file in the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  • Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  • If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE-400.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.

Just installed this and will test it on my team training ride tomorrow. I broke down and bought a Wahoo Bolt....I've been a loyal Garmin Edge user since the VERY first one...and I've owned literally every Garmin Edge cycling computer there is. Currently using 2 Edge 1030s.....but I am willing to dump them for a $250 Bolt because it's SIMPLE and it WORKS EVERY TIME. Garmin you need to wake up and get things fixed. My shop has a huge Wahoo display with 2 old Garmin Edges (a 1000 and a 820) sitting in a shelf collecting dust. People are sick of spending money for devices lock up, or just plain fail to work as advertised. I did a ride today with my Wahoo Bolt and before I could unclip and check my phone it had uploaded my ride (complete with HR, Power Meter data, etc. ) and it was a revelation that yes...there are better products out there. I want to believe that Garmin cares about it's loyal customers and wants to make things right....however I feel they will just keep stinking up the place with failed updates and broken promises.
  • Another firmware-update without adressing the remote-issue...
  • New 1030 this week as a birthday present. Decided to put beta on as no history/settings to really lose (2x50min indoor sessions).

Worked without issues. Solid BLE throughout ride. 3 text notifications. 2 calls. All sensors : Garmin speed and cadance and PowerPod connected via ANT+. Tried switching Strava segments on half way round, but didn’t work - might need to be on when choosing route?

Have moved from Wahoo Bolt which I like and is solid as a rock. Garmin easier to see though and it’s 3sec power calculates better than wahoo - if I stop peddling for 1 sec using the Wahoo then after 3 sec , power drops to 0 which it shouldn’t as it should average the 3sec.

    initial impressions good.

**Edit : also had HRM-TRI Via ANT+.. Also LiveTrack worked without any issues.
  • I installed the beta and immediately I had to re-pair my phone as the phone didn't connect to the edge.
After that I tried to run the Live track which didn't work (said something like an "error occurred while trying to connect").
I didn't give up cleared the data of Garmin Connect in my phone and then I was able to start using Live track.
Of course that worked for only the first part of my trail when I got back to my car I saw the live track stopped working so I opened the Garmin connect again and then I was on the map again.
At least this time I was able to see my friend via group connection but the data about where he is was in a big delay (marked him as if was 3 KM from me when we were at the same point).
Other then that the usual bugs, Audio prompt worked for the first 6 minutes and stopped working (I set the device to update me regarding my heart rate every 3 minutes).
Also for unknown reason every time I'm adding my phone again the rest heart rate settled on 30 and I had to re-change it.
Calories is way off as usual - showed me I burned 1420 calories for 65 minutes ride (yahha right).
At least the syncing part was done automatically when I finished my ride (didn't work on version 4.00).
To summarize: Still very unreliable device!!!
GARMIN - GET YOUR IT TOGETHER AND TEST IT BEFORE RELEASING IT!!!
  • Just tested!

Took a big gamble this week and bought myself an Edge 1030.
Today I took it for the first ride (160km) and I must say it performed very well, not a glitch!
I installed 4.36 on it right away. I have heart rate senor, Cadens and Di2 connected via Ant+. Everything worked as it should during the whole ride and when I got home it automatically uploaded the ride via Wi-Fi. Didn't have my phone connected during the ride.
Well I understand that it is only one ride but I have hope for this device. Next ride I will test with my phone connected and Live Track. Let’s see what happens then!

On my second 1030, first one was just a mess so returned to bike store. Updated my second unit to 4.36. Seems OK so far on 95k ride stayed connected to phone (Huawei P20 Pro) downloaded via phone after ride. I didn't connect WiFi this time around due to bad experience last time. Only issue on this ride was no Live Segment on some segments (starred), some worked ok. All my bike sensors are Ant+, Bluetooth seemed most unstable last time around, will be connecting to Kickr (Bluetooth) soon, frozen cadence and heart rate after 15 mins last time.
  • Zero issues here as well. Bluetooth connected (with my S8), power, HR, cad, DI2 connected. Checked the weather several times and replied two sms's stille riding. Even live track worked perfect.

Uploaded without issue once back home.

For 2,5h ride I noted almost 20% battery consumption. On previous beta with Bluetooth off, that would have been appr. 12%...

Apparently a great and finally a step forward Garmin. Keep em coming
