Disable Bluetooth on Edge and no reboot

Just my 2 cents here. But since last week, where I was on a bike trip, I have used my Edge with Bluetooth disabled. And guess what - I have not have a single reboot or freeze. That's about 35 hours of training...!

Of course non of the connected functions work, but segments and navigation was without issue for me.

So if you prefer stability in favor of functionality, try switching it off and see if it helps.

Ps - this goes for beta 4.01 and 4.11

Hi, where do you go within the unit to turn off bluetooth? I cant find it lol
  • I don't have the Edge in front of me, but I'll try to guide anyway.

Go to Settings > Connected Functions > Phone and disable BT.

Thanks for that. Going to give it a try on mine in about 30 minutes. I've had to disable Strava segments and use my new Wahoo (thank you Garmin for pushing me on that purchase) when looking at segment work. I'd be happy to give up BT functionality and save segments. Fingers crossed.

Disabled my phone connection, reset my device (just in case) then rode about 1 hour today... ZERO freezes and all my segments worked without issue. As soon as I got home, the 1030 automatically connected to my WIFI and uploaded the ride. Thanks Teriemer

So do we think the major issue can be concluded as the Bluetooth chip area of the unit? Perhaps somebody sourced the parts from a supplier thats not fit for purpose? Madness whatever it is!

Pretty sure it's not the chip, but instead the software. There seems to be some sort of race condition or null pointer that gets dereferenced, but I am basing that on examination of my logs and logs of others on this forum. Chances are the Garmin folks just haven't fix the problem yet, but I suspect it is fixable.
  • Mine has worked without crashing since I disabled Strava live segments & Bluetooth is still on so behalf’s the unit just doesn’t like multitasking
