Power Meter Freezing - This happen to anyone?

I'm having an issue in which my power tap P1 pedals stop recording a # on the Garmin edge 1030.

Anyone else having this issue? it just freezes at a certain power #.

I tried connecting to the bluetooth connections and still no luck. It is normally paired to the ANT+ sensor.

BTW i have ZERO issues with the 935 connection. in fact it continues to register power numbers so it's the garmin edge 1030.

This happened to me on 9 May 2018 during a short ride. Details below:

    1. Edge 1030 with Firmware (FW) Rev. 4.0
    2. Stages Gen2 Left crank only power meter. Latest FW is installed.
    3. Running Bluetooth (BTE) connection to power meter only. ANT Disabled.
    4. Forerunner 935 broadcasting heart rate data to the 1030. 935 was running FW 8.0

Summary: This was the first time I had any connectivity issues between the 1030 and my power meter on FW 4.0 using BTE only. I was only about 1.3mi into my ride and the Cadence and 3sec Pwr Values on the screen became fixed. All other 1030 functions seemed to be working - time, speed, heart rate, etc. To resolve the issue I stopped and flipped screens, looked at the sensor connection status, then proceeded to put the unit into sleep mode. None of this helped. Next step was to disable the power meter BTE connection and enable the ANT connection. The edge detected the power meter via ANT after a few seconds and the rest of the ride was fine, no issues. I intend to leave BTE disabled and use ANT with this device for now to see if I the issue crops up again.

Overall, I have had no issues with the 1030 and connectivity to other devices. As for the original post, if you haven’t already, I would try disabling the power meter BTE connection and enabling the ANT connection. You may find both are enabled. Not that it should matter, but this might improve things.

    Good Luck.

  • Thanks Scott - are u still running into issues? none of those combos seem to make the power meter work consistently .

I had thought that maybe the forerunner 935 was somehow interfering but it's not. I tried using the edge 1030 solo and the same thing happened.

  • Same here. Very frustrating. Two setups, same outcomes:

    1. Garmin 1030
    2. Stages single side power meter; latest FW; BT
    3. Tickr HR strap Ant+
    4. DA Di2 BT adapter

    1. Garmin 1030
    2. Pioneer single side PM
    3. Tickr HR strap Ant+

    Two behaviors:

    1. PM and cadence freeze; even after disabling PM, no change in frozen cadence/power readout
    2. Drop out of any cadence/power reading. Even with disabling and attempt to reconnect, no readout unless ride is stopped/restarted.
  • Connect the powermeter via ANT+ (not BLE) and all is good!
  • ^^^ This.
Only the Bluetooth connected sensors seem to drop.
I have now switched my sensors to ANT+ and will try tomorrow.
I am also wondering why the Edge would connect to dual protocol sensors via BT and not Ant+. I would think it should at least offer the choice. Also since it is not so obvious how to switch off Bluetooth and thus force connection through ANT+

    Gabe:
I have only had the one data freeze instance thus far. I had been using BTE (ANT disabled) since FW 4.0 came out without issue. Should it happen again I will add to this post. I know this is a pain. I prefer to track all my running metrics on the 935 and cycling metrics on the 1030. When riding, the 935 is awkward to read on your wrist and loses heart rate if you mount it to the bike. Hopefully, Garmin can get this resolved soon. Good luck.

Thanks guys for your input. I can confirm this is happening on another cyclist's friends Edge 1030 with a stages power meter. Power stops reading.

It also happened again yesterday during my ride. Once again the 935 comes in to save the day.

This is really annoying. Happened to me with my new Quark PM, set it up as ANT and worked flawlessly. The issue now is that I only have BLE HRM-straps and the HR freezes every single ride leaving me with a lot of unuseful data.. To me it seems as though the issue came after the latest firmware upgrade or at least it aggravated it.
  • Similar problem for me:
    Edge 1030 software 4.0
    Favero Assioma Uno
Each time the activity is paused by autopause or by the stop button the garmin stops reading powermeter values. Not watts or cadence. In my case the Garmin stop reading the heartband too.
It is a real punishment to go out and train with this device. Nothing goes smoothly or well. I never bought anything weaker in all the senses. It does not do anything right. Well yes, the battery is perfect. Good powerbank, Garmin¡¡¡¡
