How to enter street address to navigate to?

I read the manual and it says this "Select Search to navigate to a point of interest, city, address, intersection, or known coordinates."
I enter an address but it never finds anything, it appears to not work.
I am doing something wrong or does the 1030 not act like a normal navigation system, where you can enter street, suburb, town and navigate like I can in a car?
  • I've never had a problem entering an address. Did it just yesterday.

Are you 100% sure the address you are entering is an official address. I've seen some cases where streets have 'unofficial' names.

Check the address with your local post office. Often there are web sites to validate addresses.
  • Also check you have an appropriate map selected. Not all allow address search.

Do you think the standard Australian map isn't address searchable?

This is another thing the latest firmware broke. I an't address search on any of my maps, I could before 4.00 or 4.01
I was just about to post another new thread about this
  • Are you using the Garmin supplied maps?

    Alan, yes.
I just played around with the maps. I have aus/nz 2018.10, aus/nz 2017.10 and an open fiets light map installed but I only enable one at a time.
Both of the garmin maps have no way of entering an address but the open fiets one allows that selection.

I recently updated firmware to 4.00 then 4.01 and also updated the garmin map.
  • Do you have the Garmin Geocode map enabled?

No I didn't as there was no option to do that. I looked at the gmapgc.gma file and it was only 3kb in size. I have copied an old back up version to the garmin and now I can see 2016.1 and 2017.1 geocode maps as an option.
I am now able to see address search as an option. I guess this must have been corrupted in the update.

    Q. If I delete all the 2018 garmin maps from my 1030, will garmin express detect this and reload the latest version again thus restoring the current geocode map?

    ps thank you Alan
  • Garmin Express allows you re-install the maps without having to delete them. It will do the deletion. Go to the device in Garmin Express and it should show the maps with an option button.

Garmin Express builds and caches the maps on the PC. If a re-install does not work let me know as we may need to delete the cache off the PC.

With the latest maps (in North America) they changed the name of the DEM and Gecode image files to use their part numbers rather than gmapdem and gmapgc.

The gma file would be about 3 KB.
  • So do I need to get a different map for address searching?
