Edge 1030 will not start after attempting update and not visible to PC

I opened garmin express and it advised that there were updates available. I accepted them and told it to install. It appeared to go through the routine and then popped up with update complete disconnect device and restart. I ejected the device from windows and tried to restart it

now it will not restart.

I press the on button and I get the Garmin splash logo. It then adds the battery state (94%) and then I get

Edge 1030
Copyright 2017
Garmin Limited or its subsideries

That is then replaced with

Loading courses, workout and locations

Then it blanks the screen for a second and reloads the Garmin logo for a second and then shuts the screen off.

I have tried the 10 second power button reset, that didn't work.

Connecting it to the pc causes it to go through the start-up routine and it does exactly the same.

I can't gain access to it because it will not stay on long enough for me to work on it.

Help, almost any advice welcome.

  • Try
    Force to Mass Storage -
Turn unit off. Hold the lap/reset button while plugging the unit into the USB. Continue holding the lap/reset for 30 seconds and the unit should go to mass storage.

The unit will not turn on.
I tried to force it into mass storage mode as suggested. Didn't work.
I did however get a new screen up. But the unit shut down before I could read it. I'll get a screen capture with my phone and post it up tomorrow.

    Thanks for the help.
