Shut Downs during an Activity

We appreciate the passion and feedback that the community has been providing. We will be rolling software 4.00 over the next few days and I have listed an advanced preview of the items addressed below.

In addition, we have more updates planned in the near future and are looking for specific feedback in regard to the Edge 1030 shutting down during an activity. I will accept all of the current logs that you may have and would greatly appreciate any logs that you can collect with the 4.00 version. The feedback that we are looking for would include the following:

Link to the activity (if available)
Most recent error log (Garmin Folder>Debugging>Saved>Most recent err_log_#.txt)
An approximate time when the shutdown occurred, the more specific the better
Any details about the ride before the shutdown (started a segment, turn prompt, ect.)

Improvements with 4.00 – this will be rolling out over the next two days.

Added enhanced support for Varia RTL510 radar tail light.
Updated touchscreen firmware to 85.11 to fix responsiveness in low temperatures.
Added CIQ 2.4.4 support.
Improved device stability.
Added the ability to discard the current ride at any time. This requires several interactions to avoid accidental discards.
Fixed text conversion issues.
Fixed issues with the Varia Vision data screen setup causing the Edge and Varia vision to be out of sync.
Fixed issue preventing a BLE sensor from being added if it was the first sensor.
Fixed issue where the ANT generic channel used by CIQ data fields would not reconnect when the device resumes from sleep.
Fixed issue where searching for a long address would not provide a proper result.
Fixed issue where battery save mode would turn on GPS in the Indoor activity profile.
Fixed issue preventing some iPhones from staying connected during the pairing process.
Fixed issue preventing activity uploads after saving a ride.
Fixed issue where the ascent remaining and ascent to next course point data field values did not match the total ascent for the course.
Fixed various issues with sharp bend warnings.
Fixed issue where FTP would be reset after recording an activity with a CIQ app.
Fixed issue preventing battery save mode if the timer is auto-paused.
Fixed issue where calories would be incorrectly calculated for BLE power meters.
Fixed navigation audio prompts.

My garmin with 4.00 have during the last 2 rides been either shutting down, first ride, or gut stock second ride.

First

3 04:52:36 into the ride.
4 Was following a strava map. Was not doing anything special I watched the device, no hands, just shutdown and screen was of. Had to power back manually, one can see in the activity when it was back online.

Second

3 00:12:42 into the ride.
4 Was following a ride, there was a turn by turn instruction stuck on the screen. Had to stop and reboot when I realised what had happened, was back again at 00:16:00.

After upgrade to ver. 4.0 I got several problems. The biggest is with my Watteam Powerbeat sensors for registering my watt during a race. In previous versions this worked great. Now, after a few minute during a race my cadence freeze and so also my dualsided wattregistration. This freeze continues during the race. When i´m finished and watch the result of my race on garmin connect my frozen cadens and watt is registratet. This is not good at all.
I also have the problem that wuring a race it suddenly turns of. Have to pusk «ON» button and it restarts and the race continue to log. This is also not good. Hope you can fix this fast!!!

Problems with 4.0 firmware:
- Connection with Garmin HRM Run gets lost. After re-connecting the device freezes.
- Connection with radar gets lost, however re-connects itself.
- Automatic upload after a ride is not possible anymore. I have to put the device on an USB-cable like "old days". Wifi and phone are connected, however no autmatic upload.
- First time synchronising with Garmin Express fails. Second time works.

EDIT: Seems I've driven 99,7 km/hour max speed this evening!! Wow! Never driven that fast on the flat........:cool:
So another fail in the firmware. Or I've to contact Sky or Sunweb tomorrow for a contract ;)

Very very very disappointing........
Got myself rather expensive device, which becomes worse every firmware update.....
With a rather expensive power pack that is not working with the device at all.

I’m suffering exactly the same issues after the updating to 4.00.
Instead of the HRM Run I have the Polar H10 freezing after 5/6 minute ride.
Edge 1030 is now totally unusable.

bloom34 , DavidKroter and roccolord thank you for the information and files, we are actively investigating the error logs and will update this thread in regards to any updates. As an FYI we will be releasing a public beta in the next few day, however, this resolves an issue of deleting saved locations that occurred in 4.0 and 4.01 Thanks again for your participation and detailed feedback.

Ben, my Edge 1030 shutdown (again) on Thursday afternoon:

Other details:
Firmware version 4.0.0.
The 1030 shutdown occured mid-ride between 12:04 and 13:14 when I noticed the blank screen and restarted it (the gap is obvious when you look at HR and cadence displayed by "over time").
At the time of the shutdown, the 1030 was displaying the Maps data screen with speed and cadence data fields.
No active Strava segments at that time.
Not following a course.
Connected data sensors: Scosche Rhythm+ HR, Bontrager DuoTrap speed/cadence (all connected via ANT+).
Connected light network: Bontrager Ion 800 RT and Flare RT, with the Bontrager Light Control ConnectIQ data field.
Other ConnectIQ apps on the 1030: AccuWeather MinuteCast widget, Strava Routes app (neither was active when the shutdown occurred).
Paired to an iPhone 7.
