Shut Downs during an Activity

We appreciate the passion and feedback that the community has been providing. We will be rolling software 4.00 over the next few days and I have listed an advanced preview of the items addressed below.

In addition, we have more updates planned in the near future and are looking for specific feedback in regard to the Edge 1030 shutting down during an activity. I will accept all of the current logs that you may have and would greatly appreciate any logs that you can collect with the 4.00 version. The feedback that we are looking for would include the following:
  • Link to the activity (if available)
  • Most recent error log (Garmin Folder>Debugging>Saved>Most recent err_log_#.txt)
  • An approximate time when the shutdown occurred, the more specific the better
  • Any details about the ride before the shutdown (started a segment, turn prompt, ect.)
If you would like to email versus posting please email the information to directly to our Product Support teams with the subject line of Edge 1030 Forum Feedback

Improvements with 4.00 – this will be rolling out over the next two days.
  • Added enhanced support for Varia RTL510 radar tail light.
  • Updated touchscreen firmware to 85.11 to fix responsiveness in low temperatures.
  • Added CIQ 2.4.4 support.
  • Improved device stability.
  • Added the ability to discard the current ride at any time. This requires several interactions to avoid accidental discards.
  • Fixed text conversion issues.
  • Fixed issues with the Varia Vision data screen setup causing the Edge and Varia vision to be out of sync.
  • Fixed issue preventing a BLE sensor from being added if it was the first sensor.
  • Fixed issue where the ANT generic channel used by CIQ data fields would not reconnect when the device resumes from sleep.
  • Fixed issue where searching for a long address would not provide a proper result.
  • Fixed issue where battery save mode would turn on GPS in the Indoor activity profile.
  • Fixed issue preventing some iPhones from staying connected during the pairing process.
  • Fixed issue preventing activity uploads after saving a ride.
  • Fixed issue where the ascent remaining and ascent to next course point data field values did not match the total ascent for the course.
  • Fixed various issues with sharp bend warnings.
  • Fixed issue where FTP would be reset after recording an activity with a CIQ app.
  • Fixed issue preventing battery save mode if the timer is auto-paused.
  • Fixed issue where calories would be incorrectly calculated for BLE power meters.
  • Fixed navigation audio prompts.

When a solution to the malfunction of the remote control with bluetooth activated?
  • Garmin-Ben are you only looking for issues from this point forward or are you needing things that have been sent to support previous?
  • bloom34 I will accept recent reports with version 3.90 if you can also provide the level of detail outlined above, however, any new reports with 4.00 would be greatly appreciated.
  • Garmin-Ben I can send you personally what I have sent Danielle Garmin folder, logs and a detailed description if I PM you my email can you access it under my account? My shut down was with the 3.97 beta also complete sensor disconnects.

Got the 4.0 firmware just before starting a ride:
    - Lost connection with the Garmin HRM and got a freeze of the 1030 when re-connecting.
    - The "sharp-bend" warnings are in English instead of in Dutch.......

Seems I got more issues than it solves issues :(.

The Garmin Power Pack issue is not solved I presume?
Spend lots of Euro's in getting a Power Pack, but seems to be useless given the issues with the Power Pack.
  • Result,of one Ride with 4.0 —> Sharp Bends Warning in english. 3 shut downs during activity. Lost BT Connection. Reconnection not possible. Well done!
  • Log attatched, shutdown seemed to be Strava live segment related
  • Garmin-Ben I will email the Garmin folder.

I spent some time today trying to narrow down why I always drop my Live Track early in my ride and while trying different scenarios I also had my Edge 1030 power off.

First ride: I started my activity in the house and let Live Track run for about 40 minutes then moved to outside all sensors off except di2(because I forgot) and light network. Just under two miles and my computer lost connection with Live Track had a message on the live link “lost connection trying to reconnect” I still showed a connection on the GCM Live Track page in GCM. My phone had lost the connection under the device page had to recycle GCM to upload file. My di2 sensor activated close to where the track lost connection.

Second Ride: All sensors disabled except light network but the difference on this one was I started Live Track away from home did about a 3.5 mile loop no issues with Live Track file saved and everything stayed connected.

Third Ride: Same as previous except I enabled di2 thinking that might be the link but another 3.5 loop with no issues file saved and everything stayed connected.

Fourth Ride: Started this ride from home again with all sensors off except light network and because I was close to my UT-800 light that would have been connected as well. The light network detected my light before I started the ride I saw light network found, light network forming and light connected (multiple times) I seem to always see these messages a lot even mid ride while using my lights. I started the ride and as I was leaving my circle still seeing light network forming and when I looked down again is when I saw my Edge 1030 had shut down. Stopped and restarted the device and got the choice to continue or save so I finished about another 2.5 miles when I got home and looks at the Live Track link it was disconnected with the message “lost connection trying to reconnect” the device showed connected in the Live Track page but showed disconnected in the device page, had to power down the unit to reestablish the BT connection to download the file.

Could it be Light Network controller that’s part of the issue? I still think GCM is to blame as well my Live Track work great a couple GCM versions ago.
