2018.10 map different visual style, thinner elements

Hello everyone,

I just updated the maps to the latest version on one of my units and I'm noticing a revised appearance despite the map settings being configured identically on both devices. I was wondering if this is some bug or if everyone else who updated is noticing the change also.

For reference, I'm attaching a jpeg image which will clarify the situation. I personally prefer the old style with thicker roadways. Old map is on the left, new one on the right. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1340119.jpg

You can always install Openstreetmap (same map data) from somewhere else where they let you choose how the map is displayed.
I use velomap.org with the Thick settings file.

Hi Kave, velomap.org looks fine, but I do not see the maps for Garmin device there except DEM maps with altitude data. I do not see Thick setting file either. Any hint ? Maybe premium account ? Thanks

Thanks for the reply Kave, I was wondering why it changed with this update, is the new map the default Openstreetmap view style (thinner) whereas the previous version was modified by Garmin somehow? You mention a thick settings file with velomap, do you think such a modification can be made for the stock map, or is it how the map is built and impossible to change from my end.

I own a 9 year old car nuvi 1490t and that has the latest maps with the map style being consistent since it was new.

This is why I'd love to know the technical reason for such major changes and why Garmin did this, as you would think the graphics wouldn't change once the format was finalized with only new POI's and features being added with each successive update.

I don't see an updated European map as an option on Garmin Express, is this a separate download?

I have version 2017.10 for Europe on my Edge 1030...

No update to 2018.10...?

Any idea when this will be released?

I mean, this is part of the advertised functionality - popularity routing. And we are now 6 months after release...?!
