1030 turns off during ride

Former Member
Former Member
Hello

I have had my 1030 for 3 months now, and manily used for indoor training, but now I have startet on outdoor training.
I have never had any problems with the 1030 before, but 2 days in a row, I have experienced that it suddently shuts down during a ride, I am not sure, but it could be in relation to some Strava segments starting.
I can start it again, and when it starts it asks if I want to save my ride, if I cancel, I can continue the ride in the same file.

Does anybody have suggestions on what to do?

My 1030 turned off on 2 live segments this morning. I’m running the 4.0 software and just bought the thing 3 days ago.

I went ent into the computer and turned off the “turn guidance” on the Strava live segment settings and it seems to have taken care of the issue for now.

This issue needs to be resolved.
  • Unfortunately firmware version 4.00 is quite buggy. If you haven't updated yet, then don't do it before a new version with fixes is released.

Finished the ride and the Garmin turned off again during a live segment. The 1030 turned off the last time I was on the same segment 3 days ago. Garmin 1030 has now turned off at least 10 times now since I got it 4 days ago.
  • In version 4.0 beginning a Strava segments the Edge 1030 turn off. I don't understand how a feature working in older device is a disaster in this Edge 1030.

  • Same error here! Never had shutdowns thus far. Firmware 4.00 makes the Edge crash. It's going backwards instead of improving

It happend to me on the weekend! I was trying to race a segment and as soon as the strava live segment popped up and I started going for it and the unit just turned off. I started the segment 5 times and it happened every single time. I decided to start strava on my phone to time the segment. Once the live segment was not on the unit worked perfectly. I had this happen once before when I was on holiday at Christmas time.It is very odd and extremely frustrating Garmin, please fix!

Same issue here. 1st long ride aiming to do 100+miles. Just riding along, 10 mins in look down, 1030 is off, 15 mins after restarting same thing. Will make a support call. Fauts on 3 new Garmin devices currently - could be a long call.
  • Try tuning off bluettoth on the Edge.

I haven't had a single freeze or reboot since I did that 35 training hours ago.

Then one time, I had to use my phone for uploading, I turned BT on, the Edge reboot'et 5 min later...!

I know it's in no way acceptable to leave like that, yet it's works as a temp. solution...

    Just my 2 cents...
  • Exactly what I do for month now!
Without phone connection the 1030 works flawlessly.
In my case not a big deal to live without phoneconnection - I never used phone related functions like livetrack, accident notifications and so on...
Upload to GC via WLAN works fine.
But of course unacceptable for a device which promises so much!

my 1030 is doing the same thing on a Strava segment. I turned off phone bluetooth and it didn't crash. Garmin- PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE. My Quarq power meter also freezes on BLE, so have to use ANT
