1030 turns off during ride

Hello

I have had my 1030 for 3 months now, and manily used for indoor training, but now I have startet on outdoor training.
I have never had any problems with the 1030 before, but 2 days in a row, I have experienced that it suddently shuts down during a ride, I am not sure, but it could be in relation to some Strava segments starting.
I can start it again, and when it starts it asks if I want to save my ride, if I cancel, I can continue the ride in the same file.

Does anybody have suggestions on what to do?
  • I did it and the same behaviour. After 15 minutes on my bicycle today the edge 1030 turn off. I leave the todays´s error log. This week I will ask Garmin and rma to change the unit. If the following unit have the same behaviour I will ask for my money back in my store. My screen has the blue edges in the screen. This edge 1030 is a total disaster and my last Garmin unit.

Anyone here use the Wahoo Elemnt or know how it compares? Getting tired of all the crashes and thought I'd give the Wahoo a try. Are they having issues with random crashes for their unit?

A friend has a Wahoo and seems to have no issues at all! That might be my next purchase as Garmin have really messed things up this time! Was one of the first to have a 1030 in the UK and regret it so much.

I have experience with a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. I had a Garmin 510, then to 810, then went to a Wahoo Bolt because the touchscreen on the 810 was abysmal. If my hands were sweaty, or if it were raining the screen was non-responsive. So I went to the Wahoo Bolt; all was fine for the initial 2 months, then the device lost connectivity to my iPhone for notifications. After round & round with Wahoo support (sending them my info - they even connected to my device (via logging into it somehow). Due to my job, I rely on the notifications when riding (I know, my job is a pain). The Tech Support guy seemed to get frustrated with me because it was weeks of back and forth. I did EVERYTHING they asked (I even got a new iPhone) and his final email was, 'sorry, but it seems to be an issue on your end...'. Basically, he was telling me he as done assisting me and had absolutely NO IDEA how to fix it. So, the Bolt was sold and I purchased an Edge 1030. Love the 1030 - except for the turning off thing...
  • New update for the 1030: I rode a 72 mile course this weekend and the Edge 1030 worked like a champ! The device did not shut down, nor did I upgrade it to the Beta 3.97 (still using 3.90). The only thing that was different from previous rides was that I was in a different state with NO saved segements. I was using navigation the entire time with no issues as well. Battery started with 100% and ended with 72%.
  • It's a shame to have Edge 1030 of 600$ and not be able to carry strava activated segments because you do not know why the Garmin turns off. Last week I went to a 180 km race and it turned off in the middle of an important segment and that important segment has not been recorded.
  • Even after reverting to an older firmware, I had a random shutdown/restart 10 minutes into today's ride with NO starred Strava segments.
  • I had to deactivate Strava Segments on my profile because it is impossible to ride one without the Garmin shutdown. This is a completely mess.

    Shame on you Garmin.
  • We continue to investigate the shutdown reports. @casalanc4s we understand your frustration. Are you not having shutdowns after disabling Strava Segments?

  • @Shawn-Garmin

No, I’m not having shutdowns now, so when do you expect to fix this problem?
