1030 turns off during ride

Hello

I have had my 1030 for 3 months now, and manily used for indoor training, but now I have startet on outdoor training.
I have never had any problems with the 1030 before, but 2 days in a row, I have experienced that it suddently shuts down during a ride, I am not sure, but it could be in relation to some Strava segments starting.
I can start it again, and when it starts it asks if I want to save my ride, if I cancel, I can continue the ride in the same file.

Does anybody have suggestions on what to do?
  • reiler is this happening like mine on the first starred segment? Not happening, as far as I can recall, during other segments during ride? Also you on iPhone (thinking it may be something to do with iPhone connected at same time?)
  • Today was the first time I've had mine crash it was about an hour into the ride while sitting at a stop light, also another difference today was after booting up the computer I had to manually connect all of my sensors for some reason. If someone wants to look at the fit file and error log I can PM the Garmin thinks the 11kb file is to big to post.

  • I'M NOT ALONE!!! I'd like to think that's a good thing, but the Edge 1030 turning off mid-ride is apparently something many of us are dealing with. My unit has been spotty when turning off, but I haven't noticed if it was after a Strava segment or not. My ride yesterday the 1030 turned off 2 times during a 56-mile ride. The 1st time it happened was 3 miles into the ride (~10min); it's possible that it could have occurred after a Strava segment (I wasn't paying attention). The 2nd time it turned off I believe it was in an area that a saved Strava segment was not around. I wasn't aware of the error logs, so I'll see if I can post them. I'd like to think Garmin is addressing this since it's so widespread amongst their users.
  • I believe they are, I talked to support today and they asked if I would send the Garmin folder from the device so make sure you get added to the open case by giving tech support a call.
  • We are investigating the shutdown reports. Sorry for the frustration.
  • Hi,

same problem here, same frustration with this device...

Attached here the is the dumps found in the device...
  • Same problem here. 3 months with Edge 1030 and its definitive the last Garmin I buy. Shutdowns, Strava Segments is a disaster in time accuracy during it. When it is synchronized with the smartphone the device becomes so slow that it looks like an apparatus of the 90s. I'm going to try to recover my money by returning the device.

It have happened 3 times for me now, on different segments.
I have an Android phone, so I don't think it is IPhone related
  • This happens to me on the first starred segment, about 5-20 seconds into the segment. Screen shuts down, device turns off. I stop, turn the Garmin back on, all is fine. It doesn't happen again during the same ride at other segments. Is this the same case for everyone else? Think what I'll do is setup a dummy segment at the start of my home ride so that it goes through it's reset at a time when I'm not trying to get a segment.
  • I have seen different complaints of the 1030 resetting I have had mine turn off once while sitting at a stop light unit beeped and when I looked down the unit had powered off. I have never had mine reset at the start of a segment so it appears to be different for users that’s why it’s important to get on the open case with Garmin and get them the needed info so it can be sorted out for all.
