it seems that this may work once a month, had the 520 (never failed on the live track) before this and thought i was upgrading to a all singing all dancing cycle computer. once i activated the smart track on the 520 ididn't have an issue, but the 1030 only works for a short time after you uninstall it and then re install it, one of the main reasons of staying with Garmin and not an other brand was the smart track feature, when it works it brilliant if i decide to do extra mileage on the way home from work its great as the wife gets a texts to say i have left work and can log on the computer to see where i am if im running late. also have issues that the ride update it works just as much as the live track., am i missing some here or an i the only with this issue (i have the iphone6) thanks in advance jeff
  • You are definitely not the only one having issues. Shawn@Garmin has stated that the livetrack issue is fixed in GCM version 4.5. But that version released a few days ago and I am reading about everyone complaining that 4.5 is broke. I haven't upgraded to it myself yet, but will try in next day or two. I don't understand how a company can take a family of really great products (hardware wise) and continue to put out such crappy software.
  • I've found that i need to start live track manually from my phone.
  • What is puzzling is that Auto LiveTrack has been functioning normally for me and I'm using an older phone (Galaxy S5), running an older OS (Android 4.4), older Edge firmware (3.40, by choice), and GCM v3.22.0.1. And GCM is not open when an activity is started.

    I hope I haven't jinxed myself...:(

I think the problem with LiveTrack is only if you have set your rides to auto-start when riding 10 km/h or faster (which is default lowest value). That's how I have set it.
If you set your rides to start manually, it should work (too lazy to try it myself :)) I guess it is true, though, because when I stop for a longer period of time, I press "stop" button, put the 1030 to sleep, and then an hour later or so when I wake it up and press "play" button to resume ride, LiveTrack 'suddenly' starts and sends notifications to my contacts.
  • Interesting observation. I forgot to consider the various options for an activity start. Although I have auto start selected (with default 6mph/10km/h), I always start a ride with a physical button press so I can confirm normal operation of light network before I hop on the bike. I'll try allowing an autostart to see if Auto LiveTrack activates then.
  • I have reported LiveTrack Auto Start still not working after the 4.5 GCM update for some users.
  • FYI

Live track doesn't work for me on GCM 4.5.1 with Galaxy S8
