Brand new 1030 Edge loses bluetooth connection to my android phone.

Hello all,

I did some searches on the bluetooth issue many of us have.

I just recieved my brand new Edge 1030 today by mail and started off with good intentions on setting things up.

I'm now 7 hours into it trying to find a solution for the following problem.

My Lenovo P2 Android 7.0 phone finds the Edge 1030 with no problems. In Garmin Connect the Edge is connected for about 5 seconds, than I get a message 'Phone not connected', 5 seconds later 'Phone Connected', again 'Phone not Connected', and so on and so on.

Is there a simple quick fix to have my phone forced to stay connected to the Edge so I can use the strava segments and the beacon so if something happens my family know where I am.

Kind regards.

  • Edit: Found the solution.

Fixes Livetrack error - bluetooth disconnects etc....

I found the APK of Garmin Connect 4.1.11 and installed that one.

Not a singel disconnect from my phone to the 1030. Syncing works like a charm. Sending tracks from GC to The Edge goes flawless. Only thing not working atm is the IQ store. But seems to be normal since I'm not using the latest version.

Thus far I stay on an older version of the Mobile App since it's clearly there where the fault is.
  • Edit 2,
So the disconnects keep coming back after the first ride. So the older versions don't seem to be a solution.
I contacted Garmin support by phone. I explained the Bluetooth problems and the guy of Garmin said that I need to buy more common brand of phone instead of Lenovo.
That was it, thank you and bye bye.
So I'm heading back to the store now to get a refund. Admins can lock this thread, I never ever will buy any product again of this company. The review of the product wil be send to Garmin en put online.

OK, same problem here. Fenix 5 plus holds a connection continuously. Edge 1030 cannot. Playing with BT on and off on both devices. The only way is to remove the device in Connect an reconnect. Sometimes it just connects, but normally not. Almost useless feature! Phone is a Google Pixel 3 XL. Can't say it isn't a normal Android phone!
  • You know... the problem can actually just be your phone ya know... Android is a funny thing since everyone can modify it to make it work on their phones. I am sure it is a challenge to make software that works on everything. My BT connection work great on my iPhone X, Galaxy S8, Wife's S9 and her new S10+.
Do you have BT problems with other software?
  • Connection with my Galaxy S9 has always been inconsistent. It may disconnect once or several times during a ride, regardless of version of GCM. One of the many failures with this device.
  • I have constant issues with my Edge and Galaxy S8. Live track never works, BT connection connect/disconnects constantly. Even worse - ANT power also drops massively. I'm getting my Edge replaced - maybe that's the case. I don't know. Time will tell. But it's massively irritating... :-(

Using a Huawei P30 pro phone atm. Still the same issues, no stable connection between the Edge and phone. Drops out, livetrack sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't . I use whatssapp live tracking now.
  • I am afraid this is normal for the Edge 1030, I have had constant bluetooth issues with it since new as well as my three friends with same devices.
  • I would be curios to hear from iPhone owners. I do not seem to have problems with my iPhone at all or maybe I just dont notice them
