Corrupted FIT file activity

Hi, I had a ride yesterday and when I finished it my Edge declared on a new elevation record and stopped responding. After a minute I understood this is not going anywhere and none of the buttons worked so I did a reset by holding the power button for a couple of seconds. After that the activity wasn't uploaded from the device and even though I can see that I made this ride (see the time and distance) I can't get into the details of it. When I came back home I tried to upload with the Garmin connect but I got a message the file is corrupted so I tried to use some Fit file fixers over the net but none of them seems to fix it in a way that I will be able to upload it to the Garmin connect (even though one of the fixer created a file that allowed me to upload to Strava with a small missing part at the end of the activity - I tried http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/ - Failed, https://www.fitfiletools.com/ - File was good for Strava but not for Garmin Connect).
Any other suggestion how to fix it so I will be able to see the activity in Garmin connect and in the Edge itself.

  • russelloh - there is only 3min09secs worth of data in the file - the rest of the data just isn't there. I'm not sure how and when Garmin write the activity to the .fit file but I suspect all the data is held in volatile memory until the stop button is pressed and then it is written into a .fit file. If there isn't enough room on the device to write the full .fit file then you'll only get the data for what it can write.

How many completed and uploaded activities are still on your device? If it's any more than a months worth then consider archiving the older activities off to a folder on your computer.

    cheers

  • Hi Mike,

i suspect its a mix of too many activities and I poss didn’t do the hold/re-set at the end of the ride before i turned the power off. Activities more than a month old now deleted....

Not to worry, i’m putting the miles in for Paris-Roubaix, so quite a few more winter rides to make up for it. V. Grateful for you taking the time to have a look. I’m a bit of a Luddite, and if the ‘turn it off and on again’ doesn’t work I’m stuffed!

    Appreciate your time....

    ride safe

Hello everyone. I am not having any luck uploading todays ride to my Strava. Usually I can fix it wit the Fit tools from Strava, todays I can't fix. Can someone please take a look? Thanks
  • @xcinlb - time stamps were all wrong, had the activity occurring in April. Have made it 31 Jan - let me know if that isn't correct.

    Give this file a try.

    cheers

I have a "corrupt time" data issue on attached file. Anyone able to see of fix the issue? I have run the file through several free tools with no luck.

    Thanks in advance!
