Training status across multiple devices :)

Anyone else stoked to finally see a date out of Garmin (April) when this will be rolled out :)
  • Haha don't get excited until it's in your hands. Garmin have long history on this kind of stuff, so it'll probably be late, probably be buggy, and DEFINTELY will drop support for any devices you already have that are older than a year or so (735 and 235 almost certainly not!). They often coincide this kind of desireably functionality with a launch so as to deprecate older models which will never be given support. April is a bit soon for a Fenix 6, but I wouldn't put it past them!

Where did you read this? Looking forward for this function to be implemented !!
  • I was told by a Garmin employee that it would be likely released sometime early 2018 and if you read DC Rainmakers review on the FR 645M it is confirmed that it will be in April its also confirmed that it will only apply to devices that have been released since 2017, its a short list. There is also the smart scale issue where the metrics were being erased from users accounts each time a new weight was posted, some back end changes were made to solve the issue and a comment was made by the Garmin support that shortly a host of new ways to view your data would be available.

    From Ray's Review

Do note one caveat here though: It won’t account for cycling workouts in load. That’s because the algorithms there require a power meter, and the FR645 doesn’t support power meters. Adding injury to insult here, Garmin still doesn’t yet cross-compute the FirstBeat data from multiple devices. So even if you bought a brand new Edge 1030 for cycling, that training load/VO2Max data from that unit won’t transfer behind the scenes to your FR645 to form one cohesive picture.

Garmin says they’re working on it, and in fact just yesterday committed that this feature will roll out starting in April to devices that support these new metrics. It’s already being used/tested internally at Garmin. Specifically, the following units will cross-transfer the advanced data:

    Edge 1030
    Fenix 5/5S/5X
    Forerunner 645/645 Music
    Forerunner 935
    Vívoactive 3

I’ve yet to see it in action, but from talking with them they’re saying that the various FirstBeat driven metrics will then sync across the board between the supported devices listed above. So if you go for a run with the FR645, it’ll have the training load data from your Edge 1030 from the day prior accounted for. As for why older devices aren’t supported, it’s simply that none of those older devices have these specific FirstBeat training load/recovery metrics (they do have variants of other metrics though). A simple way to remember which devices are compatible and which aren’t is that it’s basically devices made from 2017 onwards that support the new FirstBeat metrics that are generally only on higher end devices.
  • I am also excited to see this coming up- running with a FR 645 and planning to replace my Edge 1000- but it only makes sense, if the training status is synced.
  • Does anyone got any feedback on this (awesome) feature? Still holding the purchase of a Edge device (on top of the Fenix 5) because of that.

    Thanks
  • Thanks Lutz for the info ! Let's hope they will make it to June (2018 ;-))
