Incident detection send E-mail instead of SMS

Hi,

I configured my wife as contact in the device for a case of incident detection and I can see her phone number in the Edge but for some reason instead of sending SMS while incident detected (it was false alarm, but I allowed to go on in order to check it does work) it sends her an e-mail (and also the following message that "I'm Okay" was sent in an e-mail as well). Her e-mail address is set for the LiveTrack feature but I don't understand why it's not sending SMS to her phone.
What am I missing?

The same. It happened twice to me and it was always an email that was sent
  • In the mobile app, it states:
"In the event of an incident, all of your emergency contacts will be notified via email and/or text message...."

Check your phone settings allowing SMS permissions for GCM. Also check the content of your emergency contact info. You can force a SMS by just having the phone number and not the e-mail address if you wish.

I did it by creating a contact named "Crash" and just having phone numbers since I don't have phone data during my rides.
  • SMS permission is enabled and I haven't find the sentence that you quoted in the app (under which tab?).
I added the phone number through the Edge itself and the e-mail was added via Garmin connect for the LiveTrack feature.
I don't see how come the e-mail that I provided for one feature (LiveTrack) being used for another (Incident detection).
SMS is the more secure way to assure that your contact would get the message (as it isn't depends on Data reception).
That being said, I don't see why not allowing us to choose how we want to inform our contact (SMS/E-mail/Both).
Hope Garmin (Shawn) would comment on that..
  • I have the GCM for android. The quote I was referring to is under Settings>Incident Detection>Add Emergency Contact. It's underneath the "Add Emergency Contact" text in faint characters.

My phone numbers were added through my phone's contact list. It's the first thing that comes up on my phone when I tap on "Add Emergency Contact" . I don't use LiveTrack..

When I said I don't have a data connection...I meant I don't have email capability for incident detection use.
