Edge 1030 bricked

I accidentally formatted my Edge 1030 while doing some maintenance in old USB sticks. The device is stuck in "Loading Profiles" forever. I have tried every single option that has worked in the past with previous units (since 705 and up to 820) like formatting in Windows with FAT32, non-quick format, created folder tree, tried to update firmware, tried to connect to Express and even copied a 1030 image from my buddys device.... no luck at all. Every button combination, everything leads to "Loading Profiles".

The diagnostic mode works OK.

Called support and they told that "right now we don't have any kind of troubleshooting for this kind of problem and because how the system works in this device" he couldn't help me. Their advise is to send it to Garmin assistance to get it replaced.

Any ideas?
  • How did you first reformat it? On a Mac or Windows machine?
  • The first format was on Mac machine. After that I have tried to workaround this and reformatted on a Windows machine (no luck), again on a Mac machine using MBR, GUID (no luck), the on a Windows machine again (FAT32 with different allocation sizes, exFAT)... no luck at all
  • That was going to my suggestion as you lost the MBR the first time you formatted it. Do you try it with the MRB enabled and the GUID off?

I would try to put a new firmware file inside the garmin folder of the internal memory. You can download the beta 3.85
If the garmin folder does not exist, you will have to create it.
    Good luck

Yeah, I tried with MBR on and GUID off. Just to check, I did it again just now and the result was the same. "Loading profiles" forever.

Tried that also, without luck again. I had done it before but did it again just to be sure... nothing. Starting to become hopeless. I'm in a very remote area and access to a Garmin assistance is kinda hard. If anyone has another idea, you are welcome.
  • Does it mount to a computer. Can you manually create/delete folders on the Edge storage?

    Try this:

    To perform a master reset:
    • Power device off
    • Press and hold Lap and Start/Stop
    • Power device on while still holding both buttons
    • Continue holding buttons when Garmin "splash" screen appears
    • Release buttons when Garmin "splash" screen disappears

The reset is successful if, once powered up, the device proceeds into the initial setup wizard. Once the reset and setup wizard are complete, place the device outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data.

Yes, it does mount to any computer and I can manually create edit delete copy and paste anything to or from it.
  • Send me a private message with your email address. I have something you could try.
