All crashes with BT on (phone conneced)?

Yes. BT always connected.

I've been having crashes on start of rides as well. Having come from an 810 where you lose the ride completely at least the 1030 remembers all the recorded data. I have been getting some freezes as well which requires holding the power button on for about 10s to power down. Again the data still seems to be there

Garmin says, at the moment there are problems in adressing one chip which manages BT, BLE, WIFI and ANT+ at the same time.
If BT is not so important for you (no phone connection during the ride), you should turn off BT.
You‘ll see: no more problems at all.
I know, BT is a key-function of this device, but at the moment it is the better way for me to turn it off and wait until they‘ll have fixed it.
(I have not tested 3.85 yet - and maybe iOS 11.2.6 will help to fix it, too...)

Mine crashes at the end of the first interval in the FTP test. Nothing is more maddening than getting full warmed up and mentally psyched to endure a fitness test, then have to abort it, repeatedly. Fix your $#!+ Garmin!

Mine crashes toward the beginning of my rides, and it seems to be every ride now.
