Connecting a smart trainer

I've recently bought the 1030 and upgraded my turbo trainer to the Tacx Satori smart trainer. Having calibrated the trainer I switched it on and went to Indoor/Training/Indoor Trainer and clicked on Pair ANT+ Bike Trainer. I got the message to rotate the crank arms which I did but all I got was the spinning wheel. I did find that if I went to Sensors/Add Sensor/Search All then started to rotate the crank arms it picked up a Power and Speed/Cadence sensors both numbered 26814. I added these and then went back to Indoor/Training/Indoor Trainer but I got the message that there was no indoor trainer connection, and again spinning the crank arms did nothing.

How do I connect the Satori properly? Since I can get the sensors registering by that other method but I went to be able to follow courses.
  • Try unplugging and re-plugging the power cord to your trainer. I have the Tacx Vortex smart and it took me pedaling for about a minute before the 1030 found it. Do it via the Training>Indoor Trainer>Pair ANT+ Bike Trainer like you did the first time. Using the Sensors page only adds them as them as power and speed/cadence sensors with no relevance to the trainer unless you want those metrics from the trainer. I don't know if it makes a difference but I also turn off wifi and bluetooth when connecting to my trainer.

What I do find annoying is the fact that the 1030 doesn't always remember the trainer and I have to go through the process of re-pairing again. I may have been impatient and should spin for a few more minutes to see if the 1030 "sees" it.

Many thanks for the reply - although it shows I'm subscribed to this thread I didn't get an email that there was a reply.

My trainer, the Satori, runs from a battery so there's no power cord. There's a button to switch it off and on, with a flashing light when the power is on. I did as you had done, switching off WiFi and the connection to my iPhone, presumably the latter was the Bluetooth one. I then tried the Pair ANT+ Bike Trainer and spun the cranks for over 2 minutes but still no joy!
  • This may be a disappointment to you. I looked into the specifications of the Satori Smart trainer. It only transmits speed, power & cadence data to your Edge unit via the Ant+ FE-C protocol. You cannot control the resistance, power...etc via the Edge. That's why your trainer has a cable to control the resistance.

Again no email received when there's a new posting.

Yes, I was misled because of the "smart" attached to its name. In one of their pages Tacx lists 'Basic" and "Smart" trainers and the Satori Smart trainer is in the first list. They say that these other trainers listed under Smart, such as the Flow, are "interactive trainers". I had initially been going to buy the Flow but my bike shop had the Satori on display and I went for that one!

At least I'm able to connect the Speed, Cadence and Power sensors of the Satori to the 1030 as I had found initially.
  • Hi.

If I connect my Cycleops Hammer, can I use the power data from my Vector 3, instead of the Hammer?

Of course, using in ergo mode.

    Thanks
