On the good side Remote Control

what a good surprise today, my remote control worked fine for my 2 hours ride...I did use it quite a lot.. but it did the job just like it should.
  • That's nice. Mine hasn't worked since I got my 1030 and on yesterdays ride I got so pissed off at it that I took it off and threw it into the woods on my ride. My future rides will be less stressful now.

  • I had one ride month ago, where the remote worked a whole ride. But that was a lucky coincidence.
The remote still does not work as it should.
Red led flashing more often than green light flashing.
It is simply of no use as it is now.
I am really disappointed that Garmin does not fix it.

I'm a newbie to GPS's. What do you use as a remote control and what do you use it for?
  • Garmin’s remote control for the Edge has three buttons. Two have fixed functions: one is Start / Stop and the other is Mark Lap. The 3rd can have two functions programmed by the user: one for a quick press-and-release and another for press-and-hold. I have press-and-release programmed to advance to the next data screen and press-and-hold programmed to go to the elevation display.

I have mine mounted on the stem of the brake / shifter. Thus it is always far closer to access than the start / stop and lap buttons on the head unit. And there’s the additional, programmable button.

It’s far from essential, but it is convenient.

And now that I have a bike with Dura Ace Di2, I have similarly programmable buttons on each shifter. Furthermore, there are three functions per button there: Press-and-release, press-and-hold and double-press. 2 x 3 vs. 2 options.

Thanks VeloManR. Cool gadget, but it sounds like it suffers problems with the 1030, alas. How frustrating to pay so much $ for the 1030 and to have it so buggy, but from my few weeks on this forum that sounds like it's typical of Garmin's roll outs.
  • I also have to report that my Garmin Remote is working perfectly with my Edge 1030. I've been using since October with various versions of the firmware and it's never been a problem for me. The Remote is about two years old and has worked great with a 1000 and now the 1030.

As I mentioned in another thread, the only request that I have for the remote is that it should be possible to program the customizable button to zoom in and out when on the map screen: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/cycling/edge-1030-aa/1272533-feature-request-zoom-in-out-of-map-using-edge-remote-or-di2-buttons.

    That sounds unbelievable!
I tested my Edge 1030 with different remotes (my own - 2 years old, borrowed ones from friends - one was brand new), but none of the remotes were working as they should: red light flashing problem.
One of my friends has an Edge 1030 too, and a remote: doesn't work, too.

I can't believe that there is an Edge/Remote combo out there that works flawlessly...
    But if RideFar tells so....
  • Me too are having massive issues with the remote. It always works for 5-10 min, then it's dead - red LED flashing.

I'm sooooooo dissapointed it's not fixed yet. How long have the 1030 been on the market - 3 months?

    Come on...!
  • Indeed disappointing.....

However, there is a workaround that works for me, if I turn off the bluethooth on the phone, my Remote works just fine...., not ideal since I lose all the functionality coming from the BT conn, but, the remote works

    GARMIN, pls take action!
