Apple Watch Support

Anyone tried using Apple Watch Series 3 with Garmin 1030 as a heart rate monitor? Curious to know if such config is supported via the Bluetooth connection.

    Are you looking for trouble?

    I wish that would work. I don't like wearing a big fat heart rate band around my chest and would love it if my Apple Watch 3 connected to the Garmin. I think the problem is with how Apple designed the Watch. I don't think they allow it to sync in such a way, but the technical issues are way above my head.
  • Heart rate straps are IMHO far superior to what you get in wrist based sensors. But dont just trust me read this;

    Thanks AlanB52 for that article. I'm started wearing my chest strap because it sync'd with the Garmin and my watch didn't and this article confirms the value of that. That said, I wish Garmin would sync with an apple watch given the ease of wearing it and, for me at least, the slight differences reported in the article aren't that important and since I'm road riding not mountain biking I don't have the shakes that made the wrist device les trustworthy.
  • Get a Garmin Fenix 3 HR or Fenix 5 series, it can broadcast heart rates via ANT+ to your Edge.:)

    Just got this unit. Less than 5 minutes to setup and my edge was getting heart rate from Apple Watch  Finally something easy that works. Very small npe-inc.com/.../

  • I too bought a Heartbeatz unit a few weeks ago after reading a recommendation somewhere in the Garmin forums.  It works really well.  It was a bit finicky to get set up initially, but ever since then it’s been completely robust for my riding.  I still use a strap HRM for long rides (like my 5.5 hr ride yesterday), but for the vast majority of my rides the Heartbeatz work well.  I love not having to wear a strap and instead utilizing the watch I always have on my wrist.

    Bought Heartbeatz last week. Worked without issues and Edge 1030 picked it up as a sensor. Kept displaying rate without interruption. Keep in my bike tool bag all the time. Has watch app that I display on watch. Just have to tap it to start connection and then stop to end. I only wonder how long battery will last. No on-off switch Heartbestz.

  • Blueheart is a software solution which uses your iPhone as a bridge between the watch and the Garmin, no other hardware required

  • You coud get a TICKR FIT https://ca.wahoofitness.com/devices/heart-rate-monitors which is much lighter than a watch and does the thing. Since it transmits both BT and ANT+ it works directly with the Edge. Also Garmin watches (newer ones) can broadcast HR to the Edge, I sometime do it with my Fenix6. For the Apple Watch it if Apple allow it it will work, since the Edge can receive HR over BT, but if Apple does not let the watch do it you are out of luck. I personally use a chest strap on the road but prefer the TICKR FIT for indoor training.
