This is the third time I've had this happen. The 1030 goes into sleep mode, and after it wakes up, the Varia Vision is bricked. No data displays. I've tried restarting the 1030, restarting the Vision, removing and re-adding the sensor. Nothing. Vision shows all zero data. The Vision then works again on the next ride. But, it's basically at the point where I think that the 1030 doesn't support the Vision, even on the latest firmware. How did production hardware get released that doesn't even support Garmin's own devices? I rode 80 of 120 miles with a non-working Varia Vision.
Had this happen again yesterday. Manually paused the ride. Edge 1030 woke up from sleep. Vision couldn't reconnect. I think the Garmin people are looking at this.
Apologies for not posting this sooner, but I only just came across this thread while researching another problem.
I've seen this behavior after my 1030 awakens from "Sleep" mode. The Varia Vision is connected but not displaying data. Every time, data connectivity is restored if I select "Power Off" and then repower the 1030.
After the latest firmware update (3.90) however, I cannot configure the display screens at all. For example, if I select "Speed" through Sensors>Varia Vision>Data Screens, the matrix changes from 4 to 3 fields and "Dist to Go" is displayed on the 1030 and the Varia Vision. For some other data, the 1030 and Varia Vision will show different labels for the field.
I also have a 1030 with a Varia Vision. The Varia is at Ver 3.5. This version is the only one I see in Garmin Connect. I have the same data display problem. I do get GPS trail/road warnings like "Sharp Curve...." But no data displays. This is the second time this has happened. It happens when the unit goes to "sleep". It seems to fix itself when I get home and recharge both units. I will see if it is related to the sleep mode
