Garmin Europe Cycle Map update policy

My Edge 1030 has the Australian Garmin Cycle Map installed which I hope will automatically update indefinitely the same as Garmin maps on my old Edge Touring. Now I need maps for European holidays.

I have used maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl which work well but I prefer the search functions and automatic updating of the Garmin versions, so I am considering buying the Garmin Europe Cycle Map, but I cannot find anything about updating this map on the Garmin website. It would be expensive if it did not update or only did so for a limited time.

I wonder if this map, when installed on a 1030, updates automatically the usual way and if so for how long?

As far as I know bought maps don't update.

Hard to say, but.. I bought the Garmin US Cycle map (by download), It shows in Express associated with my 1030 under Tools/bought, and, the ability to download is shown. I would say I can always reinstall the latest release. I did not try yet.

Interesting MaGo77. May I ask when you bought the US Cycle map? And I would be very grateful if you would try downloading the latest version to see if it is possible please.

Just checked, I could request the same map without problem... I did not have enough space and the process ended there, but it can be done. It will take a while to get a new release.

Yes, you should be able to. The real question is whether you're able to update a purchased downloaded map.

I got a reply from Garmin support about the Garmin Europe Cycle Map: "You can update the maps within a year of the purchase however in saying that, if there is no updates available then unfortunately you cannot update the maps." MaGo77 you had better check your US map for updates during the year and especially just before the one year anniversary of purchase. I hope you are lucky.

How much better it would be if Garmin stated clearly on their website the update policy for this product and gave the same generous updates to purchased maps as similar maps which come with the device.

Paying full price every year for updates does not appeal to me. I will continue to donate my time to OSM and some cash to the thrifty Dutch website and hope that over time Garmin see the light.

I have purchased Europe Cycle Map and downloaded them via Garmin Express/bought items etc. But my gps always give the message that it can’t unlocked them. I sent three mails to Garmin over a week and no answer yet. I am leaving for a cycle trip to Europe in two weeks. Anyone has an idea?
