Edge 1030 Sync and wifi issues

hello everybody,

since i have serious issues with my device which started around 2 weeks i though maybe the forum could help.
the problem is as follows:
.. the device doesnt sync and shows the wrong time, even after a full reset
... no wifi can be found, no matter what i try it doesnt find any and if it does there is no ssid and only "????" is displayed. Of course no connection can be established.

im using an iPhone 6s with the mobile App and Garmin Express is running on a MacBook Pro.
im quite sure the device itself or any setting might be the problem as my fenix 5 works perfectly.
its more than frustrating that my edge now seems to be totally useless and these issues came out of nothing. and to be honest this is not what you expect when you decide to buy to most expensive bike computer on the market -.-

has anyone of you experienced the same and maybe knows a solution?

Thx and br

  • I had to turn off wifi for my 1030 to sync over bluetooth. I think others have discovered that as well. Since I always ride with my phone I don't really care about wifi so one reason I haven't complained.

For the wrong time after a full reset, you have to leave the device with a clear view of the sky...After a few minutes the correct time should be displayed.
For the Wifi not finding your SSID: Have you try to specify the SSID manually? It works for me.
  • Thanks for the tipps. Time and Wifi works now. Bluetooth wont work even with wifi deactivated. Really hope Garmin fixes these issues soon.
  • crls Apple released 11.2 software over the weekend. Are you running the most recent iOS?
  • in my case automatic upload also doesn't work well.
when i finish a ride it doesn't update it to garmin connect, I have to reboot the edge 1030 and then it uploads the ride automatically, but it never does it after finishing the ride, only after rebooting.
I've tried with the wifi on, with the bluetooth on, with both at the same time with no luck!!
hope garmin solve this bug soon

    update:

The problem is happening with firmware 3.50 and also 3.60
    I have an iphone 7 with ios11
  • It is probably useful/necessary to include what firmware and phone/phone software you are running when posting connection issues.

I have not issues with automatically syncing over BT. I think most folks do not have any issues. If you are having a problem then it sounds like you either have a bad unit or there is something you are doing differently than most. I would recommend posting as much detail as possible - especially when you have an issue that most others aren't experiencing.

Best of luck and I hope you get it worked out!

    Hi,
I have similar issues with syncing: while it seems to work via BT from my 1030 (via my Samsung Edge7 to Garmin Connect) it seems not to work the other way from Connect to the device. I know that these are different paths but it should work though, shouldn't it?

The 1030 is connected via BT and is also connected to my WIFI @ home. It is connected properly to the WIFI as I can see the device in my network list and also ping the IP (although this is a bit weird - response times vary from several 100ms to timeouts. This is NOT my WIFI as I have <1ms with every other device in the network).
When I have a course ready in Garmin connect and want to upload it to the 1030 I have to connect the 1030 via USB to my laptop - this would work via Garmin Express. However, what is the purpose of the WIFI then? Garmin Express does not recognize the 1030 unless it is connected via USB.

Would be great if someone could help a Garmin newbie...

I have had massive issues from the moment I bought my 1030. Other forums are suggesting that Garmin basically releases it and uses us as Beta testers for 12 months. I can't even list the issues they are so many and so intermittent. Today, for example, Bluetooth picked up my HR monitor but no GPS or speed etc. I have done so many resets, firmware uploads , iOS is also running the latest version. Totally unpredictable!!

quite simply - owning a1030 will be the worst decision of your life.  Synching issues will occur randomly.  Screen scrolling turned on for me today without me touching a button.  Ive spent most of today uninstalling, forgetting devices, turning phones on and off (same for the device), resetting, doing the above 3 to 4 times and it cannot complete the synch.  Never happened before - used all last week, month, year without too many problems - on my recent trip to Italy, 9 of us had Garmin's - all had issues every day with power meter pedals, sensor connection, map downloads etc - they are hopeless - get a wahoo before it's too late!
