It is so obvious you should not be texting while riding, for safety reasons. This is why this feature is very limited. It is even quetionab;e if it should even exist. So I hope Garmin will not expand it beyond a few pre-canned replies that are available on a single selection screen.
It's not obvious at all. In fact, you could make that same safety argument about half of the functions on the Garmin or any other bike computer out there. Strava Live would be out for sure. Regarding custom SMS responses, If I could fully customize the text responses then I could remove most of them, create a custom list with just three or four that are most relevant to me. This would be safer to use than the default list. Also, I see riders pulling their smart phone out of their jersey pocket all the time to do the same thing which is much more dangerous. This is all relative. When it comes to safety, they should at least give us the tools to make our own decisions, instead of making them for us.
