EDGE 1030 bad first experience

I have been using Garmin Bike Computers for years, I bike 5-6 days a week, so use them a lot. Pretty much all of them have worked well. My Edge 1000 recently died, so I purchased a 520 as a stopgap till my 1030 arrived today. 520 worked fine, even though no touch screen and pretty basic. First workout today with the 1030. Awful. Had to start and stop the workout 4 times, and then the hard efforts were not done properly because I could not see the data I needed on the screen.

Screens would switch at random to all sorts of different screens, not just data screens. No pattern. Might work well for 5 minutes, then go berserk.

I disabled phone alerts, then deleted any other data screens in the activity, then disabled weather, These things should work.

I'm not sure if I have a lemon or some setting or interference is causing these issues. I use a TACX FLUX trainer. Initially, I had added the trainer, but then thought it might be causing problems so just added it as sensors, i.e. power, speed/distance and cadence.

Touch screen does not work at all now. Can't even shut it down properly. Not happy at all.

I don't understand the people over here not happy with Garmin devices overall, complaining about almost all Garmin devices and still buying a new Garmin device!?:eek:
Why not buying another brand (Wahoo, MIO, or whatever) when you think the grass is greener over there?
OK, there are some things on the 1030 that could be better, the software is possibly not the "best in class" (however, Windows 10 is the best!? ;)), but the 1030 works fine to me.

I bought an Edge 1030 in January this year as my 810 was on its last legs. My new device synced intermittently with my iPhone X but wasn't reliable. Over the last few weeks its regularity of synchronising seems to be getting worse (it's supposed to sync automatically with my phone when they are linked via bluetooth are they not? Also it is supposed to automatically upload my rides to Strava (which it did to start with) is it not)? It won't do either now. I have unpaired my phone and 1030 and repaired them again. My computer doesn't even recognise my device when I connect it via cable. I have spent over an hour and a half trying to upload tonight's ride to no avail. This is very frustrating, especially when paying over £500 for a device! Can you help please?

P.S. I keep getting a message on my phone that says "Sync Now - `your device seems to be busy, and your sync request timed out. Try again later"

Try removing your BT pairings, delete GCM app off Iphone and then re-installing it followed by paring 1030 to iphone again. That works for me sometimes. Its still hit and miss but i havent tested version 5 Firmware update yet.
