Altitude graphic preview

Hello guys!

Is there a way to see the complete graph preview of the altitude of a track while following that track in the device?

We do have a altitude graph in the device, but this graph only shows us the altitude that we've been ridden to that point.
What I want is a way to see the whole altitude graph for that track, to be able to see how many climbs do I have to climb till the end.
Much like the altitude graph that ZWIFT program have while you're running/cycling.

Thank you.
  • Well, initially I thought this is really easy. I used to do this on my Edge 305, so picked up my 2 day old 1030 and tried to replicate what I used to do years ago.
Turns out the 1030 doesn't have courses. Neither does the 520 I've still got.
So, after a bit of poking around, this is what I found.
I'm sure there are other ways to do this, but this is what I've got.
Create a route in Strava. You can either create one by hand, use a previous ride, or I suspect you probably could also get other peoples rides.
Once the route is created, on your 1030, hit the IQ on the bottom right. Select "Strava Routes". If you've linked your Garmin Connect and Strava, this should just work. I did this years ago, and can't remember how I did this (sorry).
After a moment or 7, your routes should be listed here. Select the one you want to follow, hit Navigate Route, and you're off. You can swipe across to the elevation view, and it'll show you whats coming and where you are in relation.

Like I mentioned, I've only had my 1030 for a couple of days. I haven't been for a ride yet, so the only testing here has been on computer to set up the route, and sitting in the garden with the 1030 acquiring satellites. Looks like it'll work though..
  • Hang on, when I attempted to push a course I created in Connect to my 1030, it claimed that it doesn't support courses.
Well, just as I was about to turn off my 1030, at the home screen I hit Navigate, selected "Saved Courses", and there is the one I created in Garmin Connect earlier. This one was created by getting a previous ride, and on the settings icon, selected "save as course". Not sure why there is a save to device, because that didn't work claiming 1030 doesn't support courses. But it did magically appear in my Saved Courses now.
    Go figure..
So, you don't have to have a link Strava account to do this..
  • I have used routes created in Stava and Garmin connect, tranfered to 1030 by bluetooth and or usb cable, both show the complete elevation of the course and where you are on it
  • You can swipe across to the elevation view, and it'll show you whats coming and where you are in relation.

    I can't see this...
I can only see the altitude that I already riden....
I would like to see the altitude graphic for the whole track... and see my real time position... to predict the next climbs....

Can you see this in your GPS??

Are you following a created route (course) or just riding? if you post the route here I'll load onto my 1030 and see if the elevation graph works
    Cheers

    Sure can...

Because I used an existing ride, there is a virtual partner on that screen too. I'm the second dot..
Just to clarify, you need a saved course to follow.
    1. Go to Navigation.
    2. Select "Courses"
    3. Select "Saved courses"
    4. Select a course that you previously saved (you can select a previous ride, and hit "save as course" in the options. At this point you should be able to review the elevation of the course.
    5. Select "Ride"
    6. Follow what ever other prompts you may get about ge tting to the start of the course.
    7. Once on the course, swipe across and you will see something like the above.
  • Regarding Elevation profile

As Garmin devices has changing over the years, nothing new was really added to the functionality , so why they don't add the field "Remaining Elevation" for courses ?
Lets say that the course loaded has 3200 m Elevation , it will be great to see where you are and the remaining elevation for the rest of the ride.

Also I would like to see an option to switch automatically to an "Elevation Page" if the slope is > 4% (configurable)

In Fenix series there is Elevation Plot, why they don't add the code to Biking computers? it makes more sense

This is how it likes in Garmin Fenix 3 :

  • That data field is already on the 1030, it is called "Ascent Remaining".

    Hello again!

Thank you very much for your help!!!
