OSM maps on the 1030

Frequently traveling to other countries, I've been downloading the openfietsmap tiles and putting them on the SD card in my 1000 .. they show up and can be turned on and off in the "maps" function of the profile .

On the 1030 using the same SD card they do not show up at all in the device menu .

Is there something I'm missing ?
  • They look where they've been programmed to look. Basically on most devices maps are expected to be in the Garmin folder either on the device or card. On some devices maps either have to be or can be in a folder named Map. Note the folder name is Map and not Maps. On automobile devices some maps are also in a hidden folder.
  • Putting it in /Volumes/SD/Garmin/Map does not work, neither does /Volumes/SD/Map (to check the MAP vs MAPS) from the statement above ..

I also tried the iceland map .. which is really small .. that hasn't worked in any combinations on the 1030 SD card but works fine on the 1000 .. It also works in the 1030 on the device directly.
  • What version of software do you have on the 1030? Earlier builds did not support the MicroSD card. It was fixed in build 3.40.
  • 3.5 This unit is 4 days old now ...

  • I'm thinking it has to be either something with the formatting of the card or the files.

I'm using a Windows machine and formatted the card and added a number of map files to it and all are accessible.

  • Agreed. May be worth trying another card. Sorry if that's been done I've missed it.
  • Is this the filesystem of your SD card or the Garmin unit itself ? Mine only has the /Garmin directory which I made

  • That is image is from the file system on the Card. I did not make any of the directories.

When the Edge is connected to the PC does the card also show?

Try placing a blank formatted card in the Edge and see what the Edge does in terms of creating directories. If it does nothing go to the the data recording option under the system settings and switch the recording option to use the card. Once all the directories are created you can switch it back.
  • Ok .. tried that .. The 1030 produced the following tree

    ./Garmin:
    ./Garmin/SQL
    ./Garmin/SQL/CustomMaps.db
    ./Garmin/SQL/temp

coping the IMG files over from the SD card on the 1000 (working .IMG files) will advise after these things ooze across the USB

To the other question above, yes when the 1030 is "mounted" I see both the device filesystem and the SD filessytem

  • That was the magic .. Having those directories. which were created when I set the "save to SD card" on.

1030 now finds and loads the maps just like the 1000

    Thanks all
