UT 800 light rattles on 1030 mount

When my UT 800 light is attached to the bottom of the 1030 mount there is a bit of play there which means the light rattles.
The older but slightly shorter mount which came with the light does not have this problem
Is the underside of the new mount only designed for the battery pack and is there a compatible longer 1030 mount available for my light?
  • I put an o-ring in the bracket.
  • Using edge mount like this may improve the problemciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1334715.jpg
  • I have three of the Garmin 1030 out front mounts, along with three of the Go-Pro style UT800 accessory mounts that attach underneath the 1030 mounts. I have a UT800, a Cycliq Fly12 CE and a Light&Motion Taz1500 mounted to them. FWIW: I also have the Garmin battery pack, so all three 1030 mounts have the adapter for that which opens up the middle of the mount so the battery can be inserted from the bottom through to the 1030 mounted in the top.

Everything (all combinations) lock on tightly and have no issues with play or rattle.

  • I built up a few small layers of Gorilla Tape inside the mount and that seems to have sorted the problem for the time being.

I built up the middle of the quarter turn mount with build up tape, but am now up to four layers. I called Garmin support this morning and was told that there was an open case that went to engineering for resolution. I added myself to the case. If you are experiencing this issue, please do all of us a favor and call support and let them know to add you to the case. The more info they have the more responsive they will be on a fix.

Garmin Support contacted me and is sending me a new quarter-turn mount and Edge mount in exchange for my problematic set to analyze. From talking with them, the issue may stem from me using the Edge 1030 flush mount that has the battery pack mount below. I assumed that the battery pack mount and the UT800 mount were the same, which may not be the case. It's interesting, if so, because my setup was tight at first but loosened up with repeated use.

Interesting in that I am using my flush mount for the battery pack interchangeably with the UT 800 (as well as a Cycliq Fly12 CE mounted on the same locking mount). No issues.

That was my thought as well - as far as I know, the mounting is the same. Additionally, it was a tight fit at first but loosened over time. I'll admit that I removed and installed it quite often, as I ride daily and always removed the light to recharge it, but that use case should have been engineered in.

My plan, when I receive the new mounts tomorrow, is to document how the old and new fit together (old quarter turn to new flush mount, old quarter turn to new out front mount, old flush mount to new quarter turn mount) before shipping the old units back to Garmin. That may give an indication on which side the issue lies.

Attached is my analysis after receiving the new adapter and mounts. I decided to use the universal mount with the new adapter as that has the tightest fit and, hopefully, will be less likely to loosen with use. It seems that the issue lies with the 1/4 turn adapter, although even the new adapter on the new extended mount had a bit of looseness.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1342178.jpg
